When a tenant leaves an apartment, who is responsible for steam cleaning the carpets?

Is the tenant responsible for that final steam clean before new tenant move in or is the landlord responsible for the steam cleaning before the new tenants move in...............This is under normal circumstances...............normal carpet wear and tear and normal tracking.............nothing above and beyond..........no damage to carpets or anything, just needs final cleaning/or initial cleaning before new tenant moves in.

For normal wear/tear: the land lord. Just like the land lord would be responsible for painting the walls.

Cleaning is the tenants responsibility. If the carpets are dirty enough to warrant steam cleaning, the tenant pays. If this is just a matter of the landlord putting a shine on before a new tenant moves in, the landlord pays.

It really is common for a landlord to pay a cleaning service to come in and clean after all maintenance and repair work is completed. This cleaning would not be the responsibility of the exiting tenant.

UK: Depends on the tenancy agreement, however wear and tear is NORMAL and is not the tenant's responsibility. As long as there are no stains or damage, then they are not responsible for normal wear and tear.

My agreement states the tenant should pay for a professionall cleaner to come in and clean all of the flat to get rid of ground in dirt and stains, but it wasn't done when we came here, landlord wouldn't pay and I am won't pay for one either when I can do so myself.

Normal wear and tear is well, *normal* so no need to pay for a cleaner is there as tenant has not damaged the carpet and no stains are there to clean.

But read the agreement if you are the tenant, and if you are the landlord and there is nothing written in that agreement, then tenant does not have to pay for one UNLESS there is damage!

The tenant does not have to steam clean the carpets unless the tenants made the carpets worse in some way than when they moved in.

Varies from State to State. Generally speaking, normal wear and tear leaves no responsibility for

the tenant to steam clean. It is the responsibility

of the owner to maintain the rental, not the tenant.

Tenant is responsible to leave the unit in pristine condition just the way they got it. Dirty carpets are not normal wear and tear but neglect of routine cleaning

Unless the lease by the outgoing party states so, the land lord should clean the carpets. Its normal wear and tear.

Read your lease? Dirt happens if you live in a house. It might be to your advantage to do it yourself and rent the machine-then submit the bill to landlord that it was done. to get your deposit back. If they clean it- they will charge you more. Different areas have different traditions too. Read lease again first!

Dirt is not normal. If the carpets are dirty the tenant pays.
