How to remove scratches from a countertop?

A bottle of superglue leaked and dried to my boyfriend's apartment bathroom counter top. I soaked it in nail polish remover for 2 days and periodically worked on it until I got (most of it) off. There's still a little bit stuck on there, but even worse, there's scratches from me working on it. They're not too bad, just surface scratches, but it's enough for him to lose his deposit when he moves out in a few months. I think the countertops are laminate. (I'm not sure exactly what they are. I know they're smooth, usually pastel-colored ones that apartment complex's use.) Is there a product I can use that I use that will remove the scratches but not ruin the counter's finish? Something cheap that I can order online or buy at the hardware store?

I think you are in trouble. Laminate on cheap bathroom counter tops are very thin veneers and once scratched are probably not repairable, but I have two suggestions anyway. The first is to use this link to contact Formica who are the industry gold standard manufacturers. Tell them it is a Formica Brand counter top and describe the situation to a tech for their suggestions. The second and last ditch effort would be to go to the paint department of Home Depot and speak with an EXPERIENCED paint department associate ( not someone that was flipping burgers last week) and there is usually at least one at every depot that they know is experienced. See if there is a repair kit they can sell you to make the scratches less noticeable. If it is one color they may have something, if it is a pattern or simulated stone pattern I think your creativity may have to come into touch it up with paint or caulk. If it is real obvious, they are going to hit you for it.
