Quadratic function in vertex form?

y=3x^2-12x+1

    y=3x^2-12x+1 = 3 [x² - 4x ] + 1 = 3 [x² - 4x + (2²)] + 1+ (-12) putting

    the parentheses' pieces in is completing the square (and adding zero) to leave

    the original function unchanged. Now

    y = 3 [x - 2]² - 11 so the parab opens up(because of the pos coeffic 3); the vertex is (2, -11)

    convert to y = 3(x-b)^2 + c , find b , c
