Is it safe for a pregnant woman to travel by plane during the first 3 months?

I've seen some articles on the web and certain airlines stating that air travel during the first trimester (within 13 weeks pregnant) is not recommended.

Is it generally still safe to fly while the pregnancy is not yet stable?

Is there a greater risk of miscarriage, complications or health hazards to the mother and the unborn child?

Yes, it is safe. Some articles are different than others but the chance of miscarriage, the reason why it used to not be recommended, does not go up if you fly in your first trimester. There have been no conclusive studies to connect flying and miscarriage. Some airlines like Southwest don't have a policy, other than highly suggesting not to fly after 39 weeks. Some need a doctor's permission, some won't allow it after 36 weeks, etc. Here are 3 websites that advise flying is safe.

Its still safe in the 1st trimester. When you get closer to the due date is when it starts to get dangerous.
