What would you like to ask Bill Gates?

Most of us in the well-fed world give little thought to where our food comes from or how it's grown. But in a significant areas of the world, East Africa in particular, nearly 13 million people in parts of Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan are at near famine levels. Last year, the UN said the region was experiencing the worst drought in 60 years. So, is it possible to hear from our community with questions for Bill Gates about agriculture and feeding the hungry around the world?

The interview will take place this Friday, January 20, in Seattle, Washington. We'll provide links to the interview here. Please check back!

Why doesn't he do his homework and see that smalllpox vaccinations caused more smallpox than the disease itself. He looks like a fool to so many people because of his insistence that vaccines are good and helpful to the world. Agriculture is the problem that is causing the hunger. Genetic engineering is a huge part of the problem and a return to good agricultural principals learned through the centuries needs to be taught and REAL EDUCATION that is not based on an agenda to create profits in American corporations like Monsanto will go a long way to feeding the world. Why isn't he getting behind the truth instead of promoting corporate agendas that are destroying our biodiversity and food supply?

I like to ask him to read the book: "Vaccination is not immunization" by Tim O'Shea. It clearly states the case for why no one should be vaccinated with great references, peer reviewed, and supported by many doctors. Is he afraid to read it?

    Ask Bill Gates,

Why, so many people in the world pays charity to countries like these, where people are suffering all the time. And yet they're still suffering from the millions of donations we've sent them? A Country should have been built for them by now with the many donations they should be receiving. Yet, I still see disturbing images of young children forced to work on farms or collecting rubbish to make a living and still live in poor conditions where their shelter or homes are very small and virtually unlivable. I say instead spend your money on sending workers over there to build for them facilities for water, food, housing and security. Have the Army back them up, send a few troops to places like this to help build and save lives.

I would be very grateful if anyone actually took the time to read this and I know that my question is probably not going to ever be read by Bill Gates or other high profile people and companies out there. But this is worth a shot and something I deeply believe in.

kids go hungry and the UN doesn't get involved with it, they always run to the rescue of everyone else. Bill GAtes, I am a full time student with 2 kids. I decided to finish school to be more reliable and productive for my children, but I still make sure they have food in school and out. I don't know how I do it sometimes. I really feel like writing a letter to a generous millionaire to loan me some money but aside from daydreaming, I keep going and making an honest effort. My son tells me sad stories of children being told they cannot eat in the lunch line by the lunch lady because they have no money on their lunch account. It makes me very sad. My son often gives some of his food, which isn't much, to his friends that didn't get lunch. I complained to the school office about this and they said well some kids parents haven't paid their bill in so long and don't qualify for the reduced lunch program. So these kid

  • How much would it cost to ship food to 13 million people in Africa? How many tonnes of food are needed and how much would be shipped? Is there a feeding plan to slowly build up the starving persons' tolerance to food so as not to make them sick after not eating for so long? How long can these supplies last? is the plan sustainable. Are there US agricultural companies willing to donate basic farming tools, equipment, seed, top soil, fencing, etc? Is there a plan to provide basic agricultural techniques and training which will sustain the region through a 5 year period? Are you coordinating with USAID and other organizations?

Is there a plan to provide security for the people while they eat and learn about agriculture? Security and Essential Services are the main concern in that area. They need sustainable resources. Water is paramount in a drought. Is there a plan to ship in water until the drought ends? Cost is of course an issue with an operation this large. Is there a plan to create jobs for those in the area to counter the poverty and possibly convince some of them its better to join the system then fight it?

With all these questions there remains one truth: Somalia 1993. Without a military force of some kind there is no hope in food, water, and agriculture equipment ever reaching these people.

Source(s): US Army Civil Affairs Team Sergeant. Two deployments in Iraq. Essential Services were always a main concern in Iraq. There is a balance to be made between donating food and water vs actually teaching the people how to sustain the agriculture vs Security in the region.

The Gates Foundation - which is run by Bill and his wife Melinda - give away $20 Million per day or some astronomical amount. Anyone can write the Gates Foundation and ask for money. They donate a lot of their money to health and education projects.

Except that now it is the many grandchildren and great grandchildren of the ones we helped back then who are starving. Apart from the current fix, what is to be done to solve a problem that multiplies the more we help it? Build infrastructures that support the human activity so they can multiply and eviscerate the problem? That seems to be what we did in the first place. Sure I can understand the need to do something now. Perhaps that is all we can really do. Do the same thing again only this time for more people. Sure, they will multiply and abandon what we do eventually but then we will just have to go in again and do it again. This we can do over and over and over if we have to. But will we ever be able to solve a problem that is truly demographic in nature? Or perhaps can we expect the Chinese with their vast ability to handle vast demographic realities have a solution that we could not obtain. I apologize if these are more thoughts than questions.

How we can become better states in order to help ourselves and the world?

I'd as him a lot if I was a loud just to get good detail on his thinking of course he may limit what I or others may ask but I would love to ask lots and lots of questions just because learning is all of our lives.

I would ask him his views on social relationships amongst people on earth and how people can create a better climate in order to work together?

How we can overcome the worst problems in the world?

If he supports the space program?

If he thinks any Africa nation could create a space program?

How africa could help itself out of such problems, is it possible to eliminate these problems to a low percent? I am sure they can do better with a better system.

I just think he should share his views with the world much as possible since he is able to so maybe we can have the boring but better world to live in until god comes back or the world is destroyed by the universe by something we can't stop. Until than we should keep on dreaming and helping eachother to a better universe.

Hopefully The American as well as other polical leaders can address these issues in detail.

It is always time to take notice when a celebrity stands for something far more substantial on a global level like hunger and decades of extreme drought. So My question would be, Is America supporting your efforts Mr. Gates and will other countries with plenty to offer on the table be doing their part to make your dream a reality? good luck Mr. Gates.
