Questions about birth control? By questions, I mean multiple!?

I started my period when I was 11 years old and I no longer get it (I'm 15), I have a gyno appt. Monday. I really don't know what's wrong and the gyno said she was just going to put me on birth control to "kick start" my period back up, but to be honest I really am unsure about this. I have some questions:

1. How would it make my period start back up?

2. Couldn't it make me gain weight?

3. Couldn't it also affect my skin?

4. I occasionally smoke, and I know that raises health risks, especially with birth control. So... Yeah. I mean this isn't a question but I'm bringing it up because I feel it's important.

5. What are some good birth controls for girls my age?

First of all, you need to consider the different reasons why you no longer get a period. Are you underweight, malnourished, or something else? Those factors can cause your periods to stop. If you exercise a lot, do gymnastics, or participate in horseback riding, those things can stop your period as well. If you have ovarian cysts or poly-cystic ovaries that can also cause your periods to stop. Have you had a trans vaginal ultrasound? They need to work on finding the cause of your stopped periods rather than just treating you with birth control.

Birth control will jump start your period. Birth control contains hormones estrogen and progesterone both of which will work together to regulate your periods. Your periods will return by going on birth control.

Yes birth control can cause you to gain weight, many people on birth control gain weight because it increases your appetite and then they overeat and that causes the weight gain. Some people gain weight even without over eating, it depends on the individual.

Yes birth control can affect your skin, it can cause you to have acne breakouts because of the hormones.

Yes it's dangerous to smoke and be on birth control, you should stop smoking or not use birth control pills at this time.

Any of the conventional pack birth control packs are good for someone your age as long as you don't miss any pills. If missing pills is a problem, then you might consider the birth control shot such as the Depo shot.
