A poem related to Hiram's latest series, C/C?

I wish I had the serenity

to let what is futile go.

I climbed to awesome heights

just for love of vertigo.

I used to have the courage

to show the world what I felt;

now I just punish myself

every word I lash out leaves a welt.

I do not know the difference

between self-worth and self-realization

I mock my own sobriety

it's among things that I never mention...

"If I am nor for me, who will be? If not now, when? If I am not for other then what am I?" - Rabbi Hillel

    Futility dogs our feet

    Reminding us that

    We are galaxy reflux

If we are not for us

    The chasm yawns

    At our insignificance.

    Self-esteem is the futile pooch

Esteemable actions must foot the bill

    The chasm is doubt

    The ladder is attention.

    Value what is significant

    Or lose it.

The line about self-worth and self-realization was the clincher for me. It takes two common psychological terms, from the media and popular culture then combines them in a paradoxical manner, after the line 'I do not know the difference'.

Very reflective. This is another nice poem which I've read by you LC, having not read Hiram's other series. Yours is about contradictory forces within the psyche. I look closely at those last two lines, they're fascinating.

Aren't those terms every bit absurd and nonsensical? XD I mean what does the self really think of the self thinking of the self? We all use these types of terms or at-least claim to understand them on some level. Self-esteem! :)

Good sentiments reflecting a mature degree of self understanding (and I know you're younger than me but ...).

I enjoyed this! I read it with a waltz feeling! Are we still dancing?

I wish I'd reached a point where I understood the things you list as puzzling. Some things may leave me puzzled my whole life. It is a pleasure to have read this and feel I share a common bond with you (even if we have different taste in music).

Thank you for this and thank you for your kind words earlier.

This is great LC. I have never climbed because of vertigo. And the last two lines leave room for another poem and really isn't that what life is about? I catch HH when I can. I used to be connected but...no more, sad for me.

This is a good poem though, i love so many of these lines...

    "Just for love of vertigo"

"I do not know the difference

    between self-worth and self-realization"

I think i can also relate to this quote.

    Maybe i'll write a poem

    of self healing for myself,

    guess it's good therapy?

Convincing, powerful, courageous, clear and totally a new you. I love what is happening to you - this moulting, this renewal, this poem of profound peace.

Well, as always, LC I admire your facility.

I didn't know HH had a series going - but then I think - perhaps it is about the drink.

Tough roe, (row?) for me to hoe right now.

HH in this respect is admirable.

His poems about his struggle are incredible.

    I just can't comment myself -

    at this time.

Except LC - you know I always love him,.
