In the original Planet of the Apes, why do the astronauts' beards grow, but their head-hair doesn't?

    It's Hollywood....and back then they didn't pay too close attention to details like that. Great flick though!

    Typically, facial hair grows faster than head hair.

    And it seems like head hair sort of has a point where its growth starts to taper off where as facial hair can really grow noticeable before it hits the same point.

    It's a cinemagraphic flaw, just like in the scene where the clouds don't move.
