I don't want to sound insulting, but based on your writing here, I would advise you not to go into journalism. Not only is it a competitive field that you need a lot of skills and talen for, but it is also a shrinking field. Don't get me wrong, if you love writing, keeping up with the news, and having deadlines to complete articles, then it would be a great career. But it is competitive, it is shrinking, and it does require talent.
Not to mention, you also do not need an actual degree in journalism to become a journalist.
If you're in animation, you must be artistic. Why don't you try majoring in illustration? Art therapy? Graphic design? Anything along those lines. Give it some thought.
EDIT: Just saw your salary question. Journalists typically make around $35,000-49,000 depending on how successful you are. Medium would probably be $41,000 if I had to guess. For animation, $56,330 is the average annual wage.
