Dr. says I'm allergic to the innocuous mites that live on all people?

So, apparently in the last several months, I've developed an allergy to the mites that we all have (all people have mites living on their skin). The doctor has me on a ridiculous amount of antihistamines. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I never thought this was possible! It's horrible!

Update:

MzMick, yes, I've been to both allergists (2) and dermatologists (3). All sorts of biopsies and scrapes were done and nothing showed up. I've just never heard of this before, and was hoping someone else had...

Update 2:

It's not impervious to the antihistamines, but Im having some side effects from the antihistamines and if I stop taking them, I itch within about 24 hours.

I hope the doctor did a skin scraping for microscopic examination in order to rule out scabies. If not, I would suggest seeing another doctor. An allergy is possible; it's also possible that it's something else that your doctor doesn't recognize. Is your doctor an allergist or a dermatologist? Has he shared with you his opinion on why your "allergy" is so impervious to treatment with antihistamines?I I urge you to ask many questions and do your own research on the internet.
