driving with alczeimers disease?
a friends mother has just been diagnosed with alczeimers disease, the daughter has been told the mother is ok to drive localy and she should not do long journeys by car. the daughter has been told to contact dvla to report the mothers condition. if the mother gets in the car and does a long journey does this void her insurance? also the daughter has not reported matters to dvla yet

Depends what 'they' class as a long journey. How long is a piece of string, and who are 'they'. An Insurance company would need more than that to void her Insurance.

I think it is illegal to knowingly not pass on information to the DVLA. Her mother's licence may need to be altered. If she has been told not to drive long distances and does so, she is acting illegally and will be held responsible for any damage or injury.

Yes , it needs reporting immediately and yes, the insurance will be void if she has an accident.
Also, she could be fined £1000 for not reporting it.

i'm not sure about the insurance part, but as far as the driving, it depends on how the disease has progressed. If she is at the begining stages she will be alright to drive for a while, but when she starts to forget or get confused.. then she needs to stop driving.

Increase the Cholesterol in her diet - pork dripping is fantastic - and the alczeimers will just disappear.
The problem with good advice is that nobody ever listens.
