Why does my dog keep dragging her bottom?

I have a 2 year old Jack Russell x Chiwawa. She frequently needs her anal sacs/glands emptied. I do them myself, I am a certified vet nurse. She drags her bottom along the ground to the extent that it is red and looks quite sore. She also goes out of her way to lick her bottom too. It's getting to the stage that I empty them once a week, but she still does it, sometimes even straight away! Each time I empty them they seem to be full, I get a decent amount of liquid out of them but once a week is way to often..

Her injections are up to date and she was wormed last early November. I will get her another worming tablet on Monday just to be on the safe side though I doubt it's worms, I've been keeping an eye on her poop and food intake. I know that sometimes bottom itching can be caused by a food allergy too. She is on a dry, bakers complete pet food for the past1-2 months and she has been on a wet food from the local pet store for the past month. But she only gets the wet food as a treat plus scraps from our plates. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you! :)

Update:

She hasn't got an infection, I'm sure. Her bottom end doesn't stink up more then usual, she's not swollen down their, the liquid I express from it isn't smelly and is the brown color it should be and she has no problem or discomfort with me doing it or touching around that area. I already know that it's her anal glands causing the problem, I just want to know why she keeps on doing it and so soon afterwards. Could it be a habit?

This may be due to anal glands needing to be expressed, parasites or irritation.

Take her to the Vet. This is most commonly done when the dog needs his/her anal glands expressed.

You are more then likely causing her problem by expressing her anal glands too often. If you are a certified vet nurse you should already know this. She probably has an infection now and you are making it worse.

If it is a food allergy try the dog food Diamond Naturals. It has no corn, wheat, or soy. I hear lamb and rice flavors are more hypoallergenic, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, my dogs use to chew their feet eating Purina dog chow from the pet stores but Diamond Naturals has stopped that.

She might need her anal glands to be expressed, yucky job that is.

Take her to the vet for that:)

    Good luck:)

being a vet nurse wouldn't you perhaps consult the vet you work with? also did you know metamucil will help the glands get cleaned out better? my 4yr old 13lb dog gets a tsp a day and she is better

    Sounds like an infection...

If you are a vet nurse, you would know this or have the vet you work for check this out..
