Atheists: Do any of you believe in ghosts?
Serious question. Whilst I'm a theist my self I don't believe in ghosts or ghouls or demons etc. However I was talking to an atheist friend and she swears blind that she had see a ghost in her house many times.
When I asked her how she could believe in ghosts with her being an atheist she just shrugged and said that "just because science hadn't proved their existance yet doesn't mean that they wont in the future and when they did they would have a perfectly rational explanation that had nothing to do with souls or a God".
Her explanation dosen't seem to contradict her atheism but it just sounded strange.
Are there other atheists that have seen or believe in ghosts?
@ ? I didn't ask for a copy and paste answer from a theist, so but out.

The strictly materialist atheists probably don't; however, I know many (most of them are into philosophy) who believe the soul to be immortal even though there is no God. That when the body dies and decays in the ground, your true consciousness is released and is free from the distractions of bodily functions.

I think there's a lot of stuff we don't yet have an explanation for. Maybe we never will. We do know that it's possible to have aural and visual hallucinations, regardless of whether you're ill, on drugs, are just over tired, or have a mental condition such as schizophrenia. Maybe that's the explanation. Maybe it isn't.
I've certainly seen plenty of things I can't really explain during my life time.
I once saw a TV program, way back in the 60s called "The Stone Tapes'. The idea was that people were seeing 'ghosts' in an old building, because the very walls had acted like some sort of wierd recording device that kept playing certain violent events over and over again.

I've seen, heard and felt things that were unexplainable, so yeah, I guess you could say I do.
The only thing that atheists have in common is the lack of belief in any god, everything else is subjective to the individual.
There are atheists that believe in all kinds of things that have nothing to do with belief in a god, there are many things out there to believe in that have nothing to do with a god of any sort.
Finally, atheist does not mean "believe in nothing", it simply means to have no belief in any god.
It's really not as complicated a lot of theists make it out to be.

Science already has plenty of explanations as to why people think they see ghosts aliens and so forth.
Basically it boils down to our mind playing tricks on us. Which isn't hard to believe.
That and people lying.

I dont nessisarily believe but i watch tv shows about them, i find it interesting. Itsa prespective, same reason i go on this site, new prespectives, some not always the warmest but interesting regardless. Some people feel god and knoww he exists, maybe she heard or saw aghost, or what she attributes to one, and that was evidence for her to believe.
