Socialism works very well in a lot of small, private situations. For example, many religious communities are socialistic in everything is owned in common. In a situation with a small number of teams the decisions to share the revenue equally works very well for them. No problem because it is PRIVATE and voluntary.

RUSH: We got a sound bite, by the way, from Roger Goodell, the commish, explaining that the NFL shows the greatness of socialism.
I mentioned that once a long, long time ago. I talked about how the NFL is an example of socialism, and I remember shortly thereafter I was a guest in Green Bay of the Packers, and one of the members of the Packers board of directors came up to me and was seething. "The NFL is not socialism! You were terribly incorrect when you pointed that out. No! There's no way. You can't call the NFL socialist." I said, "I'm simply talk about how you share the revenue. Everybody ends up with the same amount of TV money. The TV money comes in and you divvy it up equally between all 32 teams." I said, "That's how a team like Green Bay can stay competitive and pay people." But Goodell claims it's a combo of socialism and capitalism that makes the NFL what it is. Here, let me grab the bite. It's the last one. It's number 25. 60 Minutes did a profile last night on Goodell, NFL commissioner. It was Steve Kroft. He said, "Under league rules, the teams are required to share most of the revenue with each other, which is always a sticking point with some of the most successful franchises, and the more politically conservative owners. I mean, that's socialism, isn't it, Mr. Commissioner?"
GOODELL: It is a form of socialism. And it's worked quite well for us. So we try to combine socialism and capitalism. How can we socialize by sharing our revenue in a way that will allow every team the ability to compete.
RUSH: Now, you go in and tell some of the Packers board of directors members that they're socialists and they will flip a wig. Well, they did back in the nineties when I was in there.

This says more about your lack of understanding of Socialism than anything else. Socialism has to do with how an economy is managed, not business franchises. You are REALLY grasping for straws of you have to rely on the NFL in an attempt to justify the benefits of Socialism.
Real Socialism is what the Soviet Union ran for many years unsuccessfully, until it all crashed in the early '90's. Democratic Socialism was working for a time in Europe. Now, Greece, Italy, Spain, Great Britain and France are all hurting do it the Progressive Socialistic drive to be a Nanny State to it's citizens. Germany is doing well because they are one of the least Socialistic economies and they are naturally frugal and efficient people.

Sort of. NFL is the highest rated show on TV as brought to you by the capitalistic free market, which helps to pay for the capitalistically paid nfl players. If people didn't like to watch football as much as they do, they wouldn't watch tv and the players wouldn't get paid what they do. See soccer.
Additional: Socialism works in groups up to the size of a small family. It doesn't work in a larger country like say... Venezuela, Cuba or Italy. It works when my friends get together and order pizza. It doesn't work when Russians are standing in line waiting for soup.
It works for small social things, it doesn't work as a form of government, can you see the difference here?

Thats the NFL, not the government little boy. Socialism eliminates the opportunity to progress in life. Its a terrible idea. In a true socialist state, everyone is poor. It basically makes it harder to every be anything better than what you are currently.

Bad analogy to use against Conservatives, NFL is a private organization.
Socialism should be supported because it is a utopia in principal.

the no fun league sucks.
you are using rush's stupid analogy; these teams are not independent and the nfl is really just one big non-profit corporation housing many for profit divisions. seriously could the nfl exist if the half the teams died? no they need the illusion of competition.
the no fun league's real socialism is the Keynesian theft aided and abetted by moderates and liberals who put forth taxpayer cash for a for profit enterprise.
why do you appear to defend corporate welfare? the real tea party opposes corporate welfare and taxpayer subsidies for pro-sports stadiums.

They are a private business and they can operate any way they choose.
Although I am a very dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan I can choose not to watch any time I wish.
With the government I am compelled; by threat of punishment leading up to death if I do not participate.
That is the weakest comparison I have ever seen.

The NFL is an example of communist socialist capitalist system, which mixes all types of systems.

And they all profit in the capitalist system they rely on.
The NFL is not a nation. You get an "F" for drawing parallels where none exist.
Source(s): Why do Liberals cling to an economic system that is failing before their very eyes all across Europe?
