    Once more into the fray.

Into the last good fight I'll ever know.

Live or die on this day.

Live or die on this day.

Liam Neeson's character was fighting his own inner demons.

The truth is, The Grey really has no deeper, unseen meaning. It's right there in your face. It's a feat of cinematography that simply portrays many men, fighting for their life. They led them straight into their den. Ending: Augway: Live and die on this day Alpha male: Live and die on this day Perhaps you could say, the last fight, make it a good one. Don't suicide like he was planning to in the beginning. Tough it out into the end. That's the last good fight you'll ever know.

    SPOILER ALERT!!!

In the movie Liam Neeson's character by the end of the movie is exhausted and has given up because everyone around him dies. You see him going through the wallets of the dead he collected from and then he adds his own wallet in the pile of the other wallets which symbolizes that he accepts death. That's when he sees the wolves and the Alpha Male wolf and decides that if he is going to die he might as well die trying to fight and live. That is why he recites that poem right before he fights the big bad wolf is because he wants to know that he did everything he could all he can give to survive even when his chances are very slim. Basically to me the poem means that everyday we must give it our all till we are so tired and out of energy. Everyday we must give our best effort at whatever challenge comes ahead of us even if it means death. That is why he says " live and die on this day, live and die on this day" because while we are alive we must not give in so easily.

In the movie John is fighting his own demons, his wife has passed away, and he wishes to take his own life and not live anymore. He then is in a situation were wolves are killing survivors one by one, at the end, John is the only one left, he remembers what his wife said , on her death bed, to carry on living, so he is alone and about to die, instead of just dying, he decides to fight for his life, finally beating his own demon (depression, suicide) and will fight to live. well we don't know, but he finally fights for life regardless of the outcome.

The poem is a bit different than the earlier answer. The wording is:

    Once more into the fray

Into the last good fight I'll ever know

LIve and die on this day

Live and die on this day.
