Do you prefer movies with a happy ending or a sad ending?

This information could be very useful to me.

BQ: Favorite movie with a happy ending?

BQ2: Favorite movie with a sad ending?

Update:

My friend asked me to write a story for him. He's a film major and he said that if I write a story, he'll turn it into a script. I kind of got stuck and couldn't decide what direction to go with the last part. I'm sure at most it'll just be a school project, but I did agree to it, so I'm stuck now. It has been pretty fun, though.

It depends what suits the story and what is the most realistic, but of course I do mainly prefer happy endings, they leave you feeling in a good mood after the movie has finished.

BQ: Depends what you call a happy ending, but Inglourious Basterds was pretty great.

BQ2: Gran Torino is the last movie I watched which really left me feeling sad at the end. (and lots of tears!) But it was a super, super movie.

  • Sad, but yeah it's like Suicidal said...I can't handle multiple viewings of sad movies so I'll go back to ones that make me happy. If I were you I'd write a satire. Those for me, personally, always have some sort of effect on me. A dark comedy perhaps? Something that's funny but scarily sad at the same time (think: Dr. Strangelove). Because, well...the things that scare us the most end up being the funniest.

    BQ: Shawshank or Amelie

BQ2: Grave of Fireflies or Pan's Labyrinth

Between the two, happy. But also, I like when the ending is up to you..when they don't really give you the ending completely, you get to guess it, those are pretty cool..but why be typical? Be creative about it. What ever you think the story calls for, go for it.

BQ:The Sound of Music..and I generally don't like musicals, but that one always makes me happy.

    BQ2:Harold and Maude

Good luck with it. sounds fun.

  • Eh.... sad endings generally make movies more realistic in a way, however its movies with happy endings that I can generally watch over and over again. I guess I like a mixture, but I'll go with sad for now.

    BA: Shawshank Redemption

    BA2: Seven

I'm gonna lean towards happy ending more simply cause I like to be left with joy rather than dread.

BQ: I'm gonna have to say a more recent one, 127 Hours. Say what you want, but that ending was... Wow.

BQ2: American History X. The first time I saw its ending it was kinda shoddy, but then I viewed it once more and realized why it should be that way, because of the "price that pays" in the end. I liked Donnie Darko but American History X's ending was a lot more heartbreaking.
