Why are all the Republican nomination elections not held on the same day?
It seems a little strange that the vote in each state takes place at a different time, meaning it takes months for the outcome to be clear. It also seems rather undemocratic. Someone who does badly in one state can't really make a come-back, as they've already been cast as the loser, where if all the votes were held at the same time, the outcome could be quite different. Why not just have the vote on one day, across the country?

Kit,
The reason that Republicans, Democrats and, historically, every other party of of any size, have separate state caucuses or primaries at different times is to maximize the opportunity for the candidates to be in that state conducting retail politics. No conspiracy, no unfairness, no mystery.

It's the same for the Democrat primaries as well. Some states seem to think they should have their say first and influence the other elections. It is actually the law in Iowa that they hold their primary election before anybody elses.

Campaigning for President is an really finished-time occupation. maximum applicants whinge about it afterwards. that's undesirable for households, stressful for marriages, and all in all a huge drain on your equipment. i'm out of it for an afternoon or 2 if I even ought to take a red-eye flight once. i visit't imagine doing it each nighttime for months, at the same time as nevertheless wanting to stay "in personality," on condition that i'm surrounded by technique of journalists, even on the plane. That being suggested, there's a reason human beings put in those hours, and that reason is in case you do not, your opponent will, and then you'll lose. using your weekends supplies 40 p.c. extra campaigning time than your opponent if he's not using his, and probably even extra on condition that extra human beings can come on your events on weekends. not campaigning on the weekends is a huge, huge criminal responsibility. Now i do not understand why McCain isn't. likely he needs to make constructive he spends a minimum of a at the same time as inclusive of his kinfolk. likely that's because not taking a damage a week is not straightforward for honestly all of us, now to not indicate someone as previous as he's. possibly that's mindset; possibly he figures if he remains clean and rested and Obama works himself to the bone, ultimately Obama will slip up and say something stupid in his exhaustion. both way, that's actual nicely worth discussing. that's only not inevitably an illustration of weak point.

I think it is when the individual state wants it. No it doesn't make any sense, but who says politics make sense anyway
