Should I read Lord of the Rings?
I have never seen the movies and I honestly have no clue what they are even about. I am reading the A Song of Ice and Fire books right now, and I am thinking of reading Lord of the Rings when I am done. If some one could give me a little teaser without ruining anything that would be great. Thanks!

you should read them, I think you would really enjoy them! :)
I'll try not to spoil anything for you, but here's a little description:
Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin - all hobbits - are four best friends who set out to destroy the One Ring, forged by the dark lord Sauron. along the way they form a Fellowship with two men, a wizard, a dwarf, and an elf. nothing happens as you expect it would. they fight in epic battles, traverse the different lands of Middle-earth, and defy the odds against them. it is up to them to save Middle-earth from Sauron and his henchmen wizard, hideous orcs, and fearsome fell beasts. the story includes adventure, danger, separation, sadness, romance, peace, determination and fear. there are battles of wizardry and swordfighting, elvish poetry, possessed kings, spiders, a piteous creature called Gollum... I promise you will love it if you try it :)
my favorite characters were Frodo and Sam. when you finish the books, you will want to watch the movies, and the movies are even more epic because you'll get to see the books come to life.

The Lord of the Rings: 50th Anniversary, One Vol. Edition book is steep, this is easily the best version of this book in print. The gilded pages and high-quality leather look, smell and feel wonderful. This is not the questionable quality leather used on previous versions, this is the real deal. More importantly, this version has, as J.R.R. recorded in letters, reproductions of the Book of Marzubul. These are the pages from the Dwarven book found in the Mines of Moria by Gandalf and the Fellowship. In the begining and ending of the book are also included maps that fold out to render Middle-earth for the reader, again as the author originally wanted.

The Hobbit is the teaser to Lord of the Rings, they are very good books.
Deep rich character development, plots and sub plots, overriding belief in good throughout the books.
You will love them.

Yes! You should totally read them, they are great books. But make you read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein BEFORE you read The Lord of the Rings otherwise it could be confusing.

i could never recommend the books enough, one of the finest trilogies, well, my personal favourite, of all time. you'd certainly be missing out on a lot to not read them.
I'd even recommend the films.. though maybe afterwards. the films are masterpieces in their own right, i believe.
