You do realize homophobia is a made up word right?

To all of you who might say ignorant things like "all words are made up", before you do, let me just say, unless you know someone HATES homosexuals, you can't really use this word. Just because someone disagrees with their beliefs, does not mean they are homophobic. Stop using this word to attack the whole world.

The word was invented by frustrated homosexuals in the late 1950s who used the term to describe any opposition to their movement.

Uh...you really need to go look up the definition of "homophobe," my poor confused little dear. And ask your mother to not let you outside on your own anymore. This kind of ignorance needs watchful eyes on it at all times.

Yes, it is a made up word. Anyone with a brain knows that a phobia is being scared of something. Therefore when people call others that don't like homosexuals, a homophobe, all they are doing is telling that person what they already know. Plus, a phobia in no way shape or form has ever meant or been defined as hate.

So the people that use this word are actually complete morons.

  • Sounds like you were one of those frustrated 1950's homosexuals.

    Sure.

Every word has been made up, because there was a need and a use for it.

I know several people who are figuratively petrified by the thought of homosexual people.

All words are made up to describe things or events that are complicated to explain.

The word means fear of same sex activity or persons.

We are to hate the sin but love the sinner.

Eh. It is real enough. "Irregardless" is a made up word to, but people have grown to accept it as a word meaning the same as "regardless." Homophobia is no different.

Hmm I guess you've never been on the receiving end of it. Sure there are people who simply disagree and can be quite civil about it. However, there are others who get nasty-mean and make one wonder whether they should try to make it to their car or stay inside the building.

Someone who is homophobic can also be someone who thinks that gay people should be treated like second class citizens.

    If you--

    Call gay people perverts, unnatural

Think there is something wrong with them which should be fixed

Believe that homosexual love is somehow inferior to straight love

Believe that gay people should not be allowed to adopt

Believe that gay parents will somehow inherently mess up their kids

Think that gay marriage is "special treatment"

Think that marriage should be for straight people alone

Then you, my dear, are a homphobe.

Words also evolve with time. It's too long to spell "a gay-hating bigot who is probably a closet case himself" every time, so we use "homophobe" instead. Deal with it.
