  • Why does my OLD piercing scar hurt?

I had my ear pierced 10 years ago and took it out weeks later. Its been healed and forgotten about all this time. Now as I am preparing to get both ears pierced I have gotten a strange pimply bump on the back of my lobe and I get a moderate pain when I pinch down on the lobe where my piercing was. Any ideas why it would happen after 10 years?

  • What gay movie is this?

All I remember is that one man was an activist and the other was an author who didn't realize he was gay. They had a mutual friend who, in one scene of the movie, is shown staggering out of the bushes after some quickie. I figure it was a movie with an hiv theme because the activist is sick and might have died in the end.

  • What scifi book is this?

I can't find it with my google skills. Its about a man who finds this strange device buried on a moon. A mental alien links with him and its name is Charlie. I remember that Charlie shows him how to 'thread' space...they are essentially puffing in and out of existence and getting farther yet using the same energy.

  • If I have trouble pronouncing?

I am wanting to relearn spanish after 10 years. I know how words and letters are supposed to be pronounced but I feel silly and rude when I try to manufacture the right accent. I also feel rude when I just spit it out in my english accent. Which is the least offensive? I can speak at a usual pace when I don't apply an accent but I sound like the worst kind of redneck, and when I try to sound right I have to speak so slowly with a fake accent that I wonder if they think I'm insulting their intelligence.

  • Is this a valid type of proof?

I see creationists talking about how if the earth is older than 6000 years or so then why aren't there older writings or cities, what have you. Well, when I was growing up my mother would mark the wall and write the year so I could go and see how much I had grown. Regardless of my birthdate and certificate, my first line is 6 years later. Is this not proof of my 'real' birth and the fact that I was born 3 ft tall and standing?

  • Was this a dream or a movie?

I had a dream a few nights ago that stuck with me.

I was taken into this complex with a lot of other people, but I was always in a small white room with several other people and we all wore white. Sometimes I recognized them as people I knew, some I had simply seen in other rooms. There were weird people who would come in and test one person in front of the others. These tests were bizarre and had fatal consequences. The only way to leave was to get someone to take your place. I eventually found someone to take my place after I explained to them how to get out themselves. After that I was debreifed by one of the people that it was a project to restart human evolution...I had been judged as one of 'the fit'. I left and it was over.

Was this just an awesome and scary dream, or did I get this from somewhere? I admit after having it I immediately thought of the book 1984, but that book made me imagine dirty old rooms while my dream was pristine and futuristic.

  • Food portioning question?

If two people had the same caloric intake each day, but one spaced it out across the day and the other ate it at once, would one see more weight loss than the other?

  • How could it be any different?

When jesus came the first time, there were people who believed and people who didn't. In the bible, the antichrist is said to come and decieve the masses. Then Jesus will come and take the faithful. Then the bible says noone can know the hour of the end. So...

Shouldn't christians be incredibly hellbent on NOT believing its the end until after someone claims to be jesus?

Do christians realize that this makes them EXACTLY like the jews?

Does the bible saying that we can't predict it mean that this is assuredly NOT the end?

Does having even one believer on the planet that predicts the end cause the end to be delayed?

  • Hard to digest foods question?

Some foods like corn are hard or impossible to digest. My question is this...when I eat those foods, is it creating a calorie deficit by having to try to digest them, or does the body recognize them and let them pass? I know that drinking salt water creates a flush, but would eating them fill me up and burn calories at the same time, or would they simply become ruffage and still count completely on my caloric intake?

I don't want to do this fulltime. I have cut my intake from 3000+ down to 1200-1400 and can't exercize more than I already do. I have learned to be ok with feeling mild hunger once in a while but am still over 200 lbs after 6 months and am unwilling to starve. I just don't see how the absolute minimum of calories hasn't affected my weight OR fat OR measurement. Are there any foods that I can fill up on and still eat a healthy meal once a day?

  • Isnt this distinction interesting, believers and atheists...?

I just realized this because I answer questions on my phone so I can't open links left in details. Why is it that atheists always explain their questions so well and completely, yet believers just type in a link with hardly any explanation at all? Do you think it is because the believer totally believes what the link is about but can't put it into his own words? Do you think it is because atheists take the time to actually learn instead of being swayed by the most recent email? Do you think that believers can only click and point, hooting like babboons at their incontrovertible evidence, which I don't think they could spell on their own? And do you believe that I am being too rude in my choice of words as I watch 15 examples of my point fill the screen after I post this?

  • How do so many people accept this?

So many christians believe that god can save you from an eternity in hell. So many christians also believe that god sends people to an eternity in hell.

Why are people so worried about being saved BY god, FROM god? Can they not see that its no better on one side of a tyrant than the other? If you are being saved from a god by that god because that god said so or else, don't you see how ridiculous that is?

  • Believers and atheists, when was the moment?

When was the moment when your bell rang and you believed? Stopped believing?

I had a string of years as my faith started having to account for more and more until suddenly anything and everything was possible. I believed in evolution and the bible code and unicorns left behind by the ark and angels and geologic deep time and string theory...when it hit me. God made such a magnificent world that he doesn't even look necessary. I struggled with that thought for a few weeks, and then one day I realized I didn't believe in god at all. Just like that.

Does anyone remember the actual thought or event that changed their perception.

  • Parents, how would you feel about this?

I recently saw a lady grab a kid by the shoulders as he was running toward the street. The kid was fighting her and didn't look happy but wasn't asking for help. I assumed she was his mother when it hit me...how many children have I seen that are crying as someone reprimands and takes them away? My question is: if you were the lady above, how would you react if I asked the child 'is this your mommy'? I worry about kids being abducted and would explain to the parent my concern, but I figure some parents would be offended at being suspected of looking like an abductor. I'm just looking out for kids...would you appreciate a stranger's concern after realizing I could have been stopping someone else?

  • Is this a terrorist threat?

Worship me or go to hell.

Whether you believe in god or not, would you worship him? Let's imagine for a moment that he does have the power to send you to hell...does it matter? Never negotiate with terrorists. Kill me now and take me away...you are not worth worshipping.

  • What is the most aggravating trait of religion/atheism?

You can pick any, all, or lack of religion as the subject of this question. What is it that aggravates you the most?

I know that mine is the built in need to convert others. Religion is all about believing that you aren't good enough, your best will never get you to where you want to go. You can't win, you can't break even, and you can't get out of the game. This is sad enough that people would believe it, but the fact that they are called to SHARE this message, albeit with a way to be saved from themselves, is completely insane.

If religion were something that you signed up for instead of being recruited to I think I might be able to respect the person's CHOICE to delude themselves(not their kids)...but I would never approve.

  • Transgender women, when...?

Ladies, I incorrectly worded a question a while back. As a young person who fully expects to transition someday, I am currently still quite timid about the very things that exemplify womanhood. I enjoy wearing makeup but still feel a bit silly because I don't have my face figured out. I am still relying upon the illusionary tactics of a drag queen to feminize my face. I enjoy getting dressed but still feel a twinge of panic when I hear my partner come down the hall. I was trying to ask about when these feelings that I'm 'just playing around' will die down. I know that I've lived 20 years as a male and am still conditioned to react as such...so when did your own conditioning stop or recede? I see so many strong women that are comfortable at their own levels and I'm not in a rush, but it helps greatly to know where one fits in a range or scale.

  • When i put on liquid foundation, it looks...?

Like my skin is flaking. No matter how much I rub, dab, pat, or try to blend it always shows marks or simply doesn't cover and create a flawless look. It gets worse when I powder. I have considered pan stick but don't want to waste money if all I need to change is technique. I have just started with makeup...perhaps it'll get better with practice?

Side question...no matter how I try I can't block my brows. I use gluestick and get a reasonably smooth effect but my strawberry blonde brows are visible no matter what. I've tried various layers of powder and even talcum but the dark always shows up. Help?

  • Can the human body slim down after being built up?

I was watching a video of a transgender woman who was showing pictures of herself before and during transition. Before, her male body was BUILT...pythons for biceps and massive shoulders, the ideal male body. Seemingly within months with hormones she lost virtually all her mass and had the pretty thin arms and waistline, and her shoulders were completely redefined into a female range. I completely understand that with hormone replacement the body will resttructure itself...I am wondering how much of that could be possible without hormones? I want to lose weight and be athletic like a swimmer but I am currently thick like a wrestler. I know I can't change the frame but can every body be stripped down to the frame or will I always look and feel a bit padded?

  • Why cant i hear when i stretch and yawn?

When I'm really tired I'll yawn and stretch my shoulders up to my ears. For as long as I can remember, my hearing fades out until I stop the yawn and drop my shoulders. I guess I'm curious because I am not coveringmy ears and I know the only part of my ear being affected is my eaustacian tube. Do any students know what is going on here? Its the same type of ungoogleable question as why I can feel air being pulled and pushed through two little holes in the roof of my mouth that I can't find in anatomy books.

  • Atheists: what would we talk about?

I'm not trolling, check my answers to prove it.

If we had our own section, what would we talk about? What would our questions be like? I can think of a whole load of things that I think we'd all be interested by so I look forward to the day when we do have our own area; I'll still come here because it's fun, but I guess its hard to imagine r&s without us.
