When making KD do I have to use anything not in the box?

Like Milk, Butter? Its for a group camping/hiking trip so it would be good not to bring those things.

You also need milk, and butter or margarine. Strictly speaking, you could make the KD with water but it will be much better with milk and butter. Bring powdered milk, and butter is easy to pack for camping in a plastic container.

No, you don't necessisarily have to use milk or butter, you can simply use water. The Kraft Dinner may not be as creamy as it would had you used the milk and butter but it will still be good to eat. If you are worried about having to lug around milk or the milk spoiling you may want to consider bringing powdered milk along. You just may have to add a little more water in order to rehydrate the milk. You can buy powered milk at your local grocery store or camping supply store.

They also make pre-made KD that's sold in a pouch and the instant KD sold in a little bowl. With the pre-made KD all you have to do is heat it and eat it and with the instant KD all you do is add hot water, it already has the milk and butter in it.
