Two answers, one from Pulsar & one from jean ann j - If I had win 7 I would of gone with jean ann j answer & modify searchindexer.exe, however I've got XP so I disable searchindexer.exe

How:

start run Services.msc ok Look for two items “Indexing Services” and "Windows Search." double click then & disable them.

Then:

Start run msconfig services tab uncheck indexing services(if there) reboot.

uninstall it via add or remove windows features

or disable it via component services.

that is unless you are a noob and are always losing files.

    -------------------------------

it is part of windows search,

so if you do not need or use windows search then

    turn it off.

because it will be using resources that could be used elsewhere for better

    .
