Losing hope for Valentines Day?

Question

There is this freshmen girl in my high school who I really like. I am a sophomore and she knows I like her. 

I had plans this weekend to become good friends with her before Valentines Day, but before I could start talking to her, I have some serious family problems. I am sad and stressed out by the situation so I took a day off from school. I asked a friend to go talk to her about me but that never happened because he overheard her talking about a guy she likes. I know this doesn't mean I still can't be friends with her, but I was hoping she could be my valentine. She knows I like her so it is really hard to start becoming friends. I feel hopeless about this situation, she is falling for another guy. I feel as if I got humiliated in front of her, makes me scared to look or talk to her, I don't want to interfere with her and the guy. What can I do? should I start first thing tomorrow and ask her how her day is going? make some small talk?

You sound like you're really interested in her so what I would say is you gotta do something to impress her, like get her a small flower or give her a chocolate from the vending machine so she can start thinking of you more and maybe start liking you :)

Don't be a creeper. Don't make small talk. Just... let it all out and tell her everything you feel. That's a good conversation point, MUCH better than "How's the lack of the winter?" And girls like it when you are forward.
