Do these conservatives even know what an 'entitlement' even is?

They even call Social Security an 'entitlement'

I PAID cash for my Social Security insurance. Our benefits aren't some charity or handout.

Now let's look at the congressional benefits and see which is really an 'entitlement' or 'welfare':

Congressional benefits = premium federal health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, 3 weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days.

Now which is really 'welfare'?

Update:

Seems poor Jakob failed to read where I pay for my Social Security and he also neglected to even comment on the congressional benefits.

Hmmmm...

You get three (3) Entitlements by Virtue of being born Human:

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

    Very Simply:

Life-no one can keep you from attaining Food, Water, Shelter and Basic Healthcare(I added that one). So if you have the ABILITY to get those things through your own Efforts and you don't, NO ONE has interfered with your Rights, you chose NOT to make the Effort to Earn it.

Liberty-no one can force you to do anything you don't want to do. You are free to CHOOSE whether to expend the energy to attain those items you require for LIFE. You have no RIGHTS to them without Effort or for free.

Pursuit of Happiness-You can do what ever you WANT to be Happy, as long as your efforts do not prevent others from Pursuing their own Happiness. You are NOT Entitled to BE HAPPY, only to put out the effort without obstruction to try to find that Happiness.

Nothing Else is an "Entitlement". Every thing else is EARNED. Remember you have to GIVE Value to Receive Value in this World. Nothing is Free.

Social Security is an entitlement because it is not a Constitutional right. It was a part of the New Deal. It really should have been ended by the 1960s.

You pay your Social Security because it is required by the New Deal, not the Constitution. The New Deal should have been eliminated long ago. But it wasn't and now we are paying for it.

And Congressional benefits have nothing to do with it. They were your straw man argument, so I ignored it. In reality, I think Congressmen should spend every day in their district or on the floor of the house. That's it. And they shouldn't get paid after they leave Congress unless they are there over 20 years. But, it was a straw man either way. So I ignored it.

Social Security is an entitlement - good grief.

entitlement - A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs

It's called an entitlement because you ARE entitled to it, as you paid into the system. Don't get hung up on the word, it really is the stuff that is owed to you.

Social security is your own money given back to you. You should be entitled to that, or the program should be scrapped. Welfare and food stamps are your own money paying for crack cocaine and potato chips in a neighborhood where a good, hardworking citizen would get robbed and shot for merely walking through.
