You can if it really is necessary.

But what I would recommend is to clean her tail by soaking it in some warm water (you can give her some treats to distract her) and wipe it down with a wash cloth after it has soaked for a while, but only go in the same direction as the hairs, don't go against or it could hurt her. You can also very gently use a soft toothbrush to do that. Then put a little olive oil on it after to help moisturize it since a dirty tail is often dry.

Then for her body just give her a little wipe down with a washcloth.

Though it might be concerning that your rat needs a bath. It is normal for some rats to neglect cleaning their tail, but rats are very clean in general and groom themselves all the time, and females are not very smelly at all. The only reason I would see that she smelled is either you don't clean the cage well enough and she is sleeping in something smelly like sleeping on smelly bedding or a dirty hammock and its making her smell, or there is something wrong with her. Make sure she isn't sick. And does she have a cagemate? Rats that live alone can get sick from being depressed, they should never live alone.

But if she does smell really bad and you need to give her a total bath (though you'll still want to clean her tail the way I said) you will need to use a very gentle shampoo. Either baby or kitten shampoo. Regular shampoo or soap can be very harmful to their skin or give them allergic reactions. Make sure the water is a good temperature and try to dry her off as quickly as possible, until she is totally dry obviously don't let her go anywhere cold or be in a draft.

Absolutely!!! A couple inches of water in the bathroom (little warmer than how you like it DO NOT BURN HER!!!) and baby shampoo. I use a stiff bristled toothbrush as a scrubby for my girl. And you can gently wipe her face with warm water and a washcloth NO SOAP on her face and watch her ears when you rinse her under the faucet. Towel dry thoroughly and in the winter if you sit somewhere like by a heater, vent or wood burner, she'll probably fall asleep while your rubbing her with the towel.

you do not could provide your rats baths, yet whilst they are commencing up to sniff you probable could, they're going to scent and sense extra effectual. you may the two bathe them interior the sink (don't get water interior the ears, eyes, or nostril) kitten shampoo is reported for bathing rats, yet it truly is somewhat not undemanding to locate so i exploit canine shampoo. there is likewise no rinse shampoo which you purely rub into their fur and enable dry. yet undergo in ideas in case you bathe them with water make helpful they are in a heat place to dry off.
