Can unborn babies lose and gain weight?
When a pregnant woman gets an ultrasound, can they can tell you approx what the baby weighs? or not?
If so, can the unborn baby lose and gain weight? Like, if they are, say, 6 pounds, but the next time you go for an ultrasound, they're less than that? something like that..
I'm not pregnant, just curious.

Yes they can weigh the baby in ultrasounds. Yes they gain and lose weight throughout the pregnancy. The doctors measure the expected mothers stomach to determine the baby's size as well
Edit: yes unborn babies can lose weight. My sister in law is 36 weeks pregnant and the baby has lost weight since the last time she went to the doctor.
Let me add, you can't say 100% how much the baby will weigh at birth, but during a very detailed ultrasound around 20 weeks, they weigh the baby

I don't think an unborn baby can lose weight. But they gain,or even stop gaining weight(which is bad,it means something isn't right) ultrasound techs can guess weight useing measurements(a baby should always grow) ....a womans fundal measurments should always grow too(at least until its towards the end). Babies pack on weight up to the day they are born, except if there is a problem, such as blood clot in the umbilical cord)

It is very normal to lose weight in the beginning. Rest assured that your baby is getting the appropriate vitamins and nutrients it needs. I am very petite and have always lost 5-10 lbs in the beginning. This time I actually didn't gain any of it back until I was 6 months and I'm now 8.5 months and have gained a very healthy 25 lbs. It's nothing to worry about as long as you are taking your vitamins and eating healthy!!

I am most def sure you cannot tell how much a baby weighs until the baby is born.
I might be wrong though.
