Conservative Republicans: Doesn't Gingrich stand for everything you are against for morally in a candidate?

First all, I'm NOT a Democrat or a liberal. I'm independent, so I have no bones to pick in this fight. But it strikes me how many conservatives who constantly criticized former Pres. Clinton for his philandering are fine with Gingrich's own womanizing ways.

Sure, he is married now (thrice) but he was a hypocrite too when he demonized Clinton for his affair with Lewinsky while he was also cheating on his wife. Yet, he is one of the main runners in the 2012 primaries and perhaps win the nomination. How?

A lot of his public policies ideas aren't that sound and I know Romney is not a true conservative. But Santorum would seem like the best option for people who uphold the 'family values' platform.

Why is Gingrich so popular with many Republicans? Is the loathing of Obama so strong that many are willing to turn a blind eye?

Update:

Kitkat- I'm a big Ron Paul supporter but we both know he can't win. Great, HONEST man.

I don't think you get it. The Republican Party is for Family Values - we don't hold him up as an EXAMPLE of family values - that isn't his role.

I'm not looking for someone to be the moral barometer, I'm looking for someone who can beat Obama and restore our country and our freedoms.

I think many conservatives like Newt because he's his own person to a degree unlike Romney but he is still an anti-liberty establishment shill.

Please quit saying Ron Paul can't win. Just by his running this race we win. The success of his campaign helps us expose the corruption of the system.

I've driven through several states over the past few years and what did I notice? More Ron Paul bumper-stickers, signs, and even entire barns painted "Ron Paul 2012." I didn't see hardly any Romney or Gingrich stickers. There are still a lot of Obama 2012 bumper-stickers out there but only in certain liberal communities. Even in liberal communities Ron Paul is at least as popular and nobody is supported with as much enthusiasm. Ron Paul is winning in every way that counts.

In his personal life, Gingrich stands for everything Bill Clinton did.

Liberals cheered for Bill Clinton, yet they are outraged when Newt does the same things Clinton did.

Yes, it's insulting that the GOP is pushing a lying cheater on us.

If Ron Paul can't win, it is because of people like you saying stuff like you said about him. Look at the latest polls. Romney can't win the general election, but I don't see anyone pointing that out everytime his name is brought up.
