Neighbours dangerous dogs out of control?
On New Years Eve 2010/2011 our cat Bella was killed, we thought she had went missing. This was not true, my neighbours dog had killed her, we did not know this at the time. In February last year, another cat was attacked and killed. This time there were witnesses, my other neighbours. Then on the day of the royal wedding my cat smudge was attacked and lost her eye.
My neighbour owns five dogs these dogs are meant to be gun dogs, but they are never taken on shoots.
We still have smudge, we also own dogs.
When my mother was taking her dogs out on christmas morning, my neighbours dog attacked our dogs luckily my mum fought them of with a stick. These two dogs had a soft temperament, if my mum had not that stick, god knows what could have happened. We don't really speak t our neighbours they are country hicks folk. But I feel justice has not been done, and I cannot find a law that seems to protect animals from being attacked by dangerous dogs.
My two poor cats Daisy and Bella are lost my other cat Smudge has one eye.

I am very sorry for your loss.
However, this is kind of putting the horse AFTER the cart as the cliche goes! It is understandable why you did not call Animal control right away because you were not aware of the details to your missing animal. But what about the others if there were witnesses? And when these attacks occur ed whose property were they on, yours or the owners of the dogs? How do you know two months later how your animal was killed if not witness?
It will based on the laws where you live and there is not to much that can be done for anything after the fact months or a year later, but report it any way if there are witness. Call Animal control!
Again I am sorry for your loss.

There is nothing you can do about the cats if they were on the dogs' property when the dogs killed them. It's unfortunate, but dogs do kill strange cats sometimes. However, if the dogs were wandering at the time of the attacks, you have recourse through the animal control legislation. You have to lay a complaint through animal control, who will investigate your claim and speak to the owners.
The Animal Control Act provides ample response to dogs that endanger people, livestock or wildlife. It is the owner's responsibility to have control of their dog and to prevent it becoming a nuisance or danger to others. In the instance where your mother and her dogs were attacked, she had grounds to lay a complaint with animal control because it is evident that the attacking dogs were not under control at the time. It may be difficult to do this retrospectively, but you should not feel that you have no recourse. Record any negative incidents and keep animal control informed.
In the meantime, it might be best to try and confine your cats, just to keep them safe. I know it is not the cats' fault - cats do what they do - but it would be horrible if the cat went onto the neighbours place again and the dogs got it.

Not enough info to where the cats were to give an answer if they wondered into your neighbors property you should be keeping Your cats under control if the dogs wondered into your garden then you should of reported your neighbour .
Dogs that Are wondering can be reported to the Dog warden you would find there number under your local council
What your mother should of done is reported the dogs to the police christmas day ,that is what i did when my dog was fatally injured by a dog off lead 6 weeks ago .

Where were these cats attacked? Did they go onto the dogs' property?
A good reason to keep your cats inside.
All you can do is report them to Animal Control, or whatever you have in the UK.

You need to ring your local council, police, and dog warden to see whats what, but it does depend on where the attacks happened as to what they can do.You say your mum was attacked on 'neutral' ground....seems fair to report that (i would), but may be a little late now. If i was you, and for the simple reason you mentioned their dogs were "working", but not really, id be looking to see if they were docked and causing trouble that way...no dogs tail should be docked if they are not working dogs. Double bonus is that the owners get harassed and the breeder gets a bollocking too!!

Report to Animal Control that the dogs keep getting out and attacking & killing other neighbourhood pets, and you are worried that neighbourhood children are at risk becuase the neighbours do not care for their dogs.

If your town has a leash or containment law, then your neighbors need to be reported. How are they getting the cats? Do you provide a safe area for your cats when they are outside? Would you consider keeping your cats indoors?

If your cats were on THEIR property you have no legal grounds. If they were killed on YOUR property why didn't you call your local dog wardens? Same goes when they attacked your mother's dog.
No one is going to fix things if YOU don't complain to the proper people.
