Will citronella oil kill my plants?
I have some new potted plants and I want to sprinkle citronella essential oil (possibly rosemary too) onto the soil in the pots to deter the local cats from spraying on them. Would the essential oils damage the plants?

No - if only sprinkled on the the soil then should be fine.
I would recommend citronella or any of the citrus oils such as lemon or sweet orange. I haven't heard of anyone using rosemary with any great success.
Do bear in mind though that essential oils are volatile and will evaporate - you will need to add fresh oil fairly regularly.

As long as you don't get the oil on the leaves of the plant, it will pose no risk.
