What do you do if your landlord is not providing you with anything?
Hey people,
So I've been living in my current apartment for about 12 years now and couldn't help but notice that my landlord is very ignorant. Comes and collects the rent every month (or we bring it to the office) but I'm under the impression he doesn't even check people's backgrounds before letting them live in the building and I feel threatened from that. It also takes them forever to fix any problems like plumbing and they don't reply much when we do ask for things they're responsible for. I was wondering if this entitles me (and possibly my other non-trouble-causing neighbors) to possibly even some collective case against it seeing as we get nothing, or if you know where I can even look into what exactly I am entitled to as a resident that pays things on time.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Tyler.

"I am a land Lord And after someone pays on time LIKE THEY SHOULD and if they don't cause trouble LIKE THEY SHOULD. I feel that they are ENTITLED to free rent the rest of there life along with free utilities including, phone, internet, cable TV, gas for their car, their medical insurance, I even pay for their food and their kids college. How can I do this you ask? Because I make so damn much money off my tenants. So even though for every 100 bucks I collect 100 goes for property taxes. And to fixing things and mortgage payments and court cost to collect no pays and evictions. It sound that you are one of these in titling people that don't work and thinks you are in titled to have us workers do and pay everything for you. You are one of the 99%. Maybe you should buy a house to live in Or maybe Obama or Nancey or Barney or Reid will buy you one"

You are in titled to what you are getting. He don't have to do back ground checks, But you can if you feel the need and want to spend the money. If you find that there is someone that don't check out to your satisfaction then you have the right to move but do it according to your lease. I also agree that your Land Lord is a Dick. you should move out on him. That will teach him. If you have been living there for about 12 years it is probably best you move. You obviously do not like the management, like your neighbors but question the new tenants moving in. Move and you get a totally new set of problems. Most renters, only stay an average of one year. It sounds like you have an established dwelling. Waiting for fixes is a common complaint for most renters. Next time you pay your rent, explain your issues in a professional manner.

read your lease. It details the guidelines to follow. Any contract is meant to be broken... simply, even if there is a contract if the owner puts your or your families lives in jeopardy by leasing to illegal or registered offenders there may be some grounds...
His lack of attention to repairs, if become insanitary or health issues can be reported.
However; there is the case of the squeekey wheels lease being terminated. I suspect if you make to much noise or get people to push, it could have repercussions. Nothing says you cant do things anonymously. If he is just the manager, not owner & manager you could find who owns the property and anonymously send them a letter threatening a major Exodus if things do not change.
You could also look on renter lease laws in your state. Find out what rights you have regarding these issues.. but they have to do no more than what stated in the lease in regards to entitlements.
If one person stands against the manager it will probably mean a change in the lease.. if everyone stood against then that would be a change in management practices..... Any changes usually means it costs money and most landlords don't spent a penney more than they have to.

1. There are ZERO law thar require a landlord to do a backround check.
2. In most states, all repair requests MUST be in writing.
I doubt you are "entitled" to anything.
