When it comes to taxes, why didn't Obama do the same thing Bush did in 2003?
First let me say that i am a liberal and i am just as upset with obama as many conservatives are
Now obama wanted to let the bush tax cuts expire for those making over 250,000 a year and tried to so during a lame duck session of congress in 2010
he couldn't because of republican filibuster in the senate and the rest is history
but bush ran into a similar problem in 2003 when he tried to run his tax cuts through opposition in the senate
he got his tax cuts passed because of a loophole or "parliamentary move" which allows bills related to the budget deficit to pass through the senate on a SIMPLE MAJORITY
it was a 50-50 tie with cheney casting the deciding vote as VP
why didn't obama do this? he had the manpower in the senate to do so
can someone please give me a good answer rather than the same negative crap these right wing people always say on this site.
ANSWER THE QUESTION PLEASE

Obama didn't even have the 50% support
You need to realize that the Bush vote was staged, they all wanted their taxes lowered but needed it to look like it wasn't the greedy money grab it was.
Obama can't find 50% of them that want to pay more in taxes, since they would essentially be raising their own tax liabilities this will not happen without a lot of direct pressure from the voters

The Bush tax cuts were able to pass by simple majority EXPRESSLY because they had an expiration date of ten years. Any tax measure that affects the deficit for over that time is subject to filibuster; the Byrd rule allows senators during the reconciliation process to block a piece of legislation if it significantly increases the federal deficit more than 10 years in the future.
So the Byrd rule applies to *increasing* the deficit, not decreasing it.
Fun fact from the CBPP: Just two policies dating from the Bush Administration -- tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- accounted for over $500 billion of the deficit in 2009 and will account for almost $7 trillion in deficits in 2009 through 2019, including the associated debt-service costs.

Obama's best Lie is at the same time as he says: " i'm no longer a Muslim Sympathizer or a Muslim " Biden's best Lie is at the same time as he stated " that's a Patriotic duty of human beings to pay extra taxes "

Why didn't Obama push to let all of the Bush Tax cuts expire like the democrats have always wanted?

Do not judge me for my answer, but I believe that Obama did not do what Bush did because he believes that raising taxes will decrease the national deficit. That is absolutely not true. Only about 60% of Americans pay there taxes. The other 40% can't because they are too high. If taxes were lowered more Americans would pay their taxes, resulting in more federal revenue.

Obama is an idiot and i'm not afraid to say so. The only reason he is in the white house is cuz people voted for him to prove they were not racist. In 2012 lets vote for someone else to prove we aren't all idiots.
