Can anyone please give me a first hand account on Marine Security Guard Duty?
I'm currently serving in Japan and I'm nearing my one year mark on island. I have become disillusioned here with the fleet life and I don't like my job. I've lost all the motivation that I've had since joining the Marine Corps. All I want is to be happy with my job and be treated like an adult. I've become very interested in doing MSG duty for various reasons. I could see 3 different countries and actually get to enjoy it(unlike the rules here in japan), I feel like it's different then the actual typical fleet life, and I feel like I'll be treated like an adult, since I'll be working directly for the DOS. I have a few concerns and those include, being in a situation worse than here in okinawa and being fooled by the grass not being greener on the other side(which has fooled me many times in my career so far). I would like to get first hand information on the application process, the actual school, and how life in MSG actually is once stationed. I appreciate the help ladies and gentlemen
1 AnswerMilitary7 years agoGood PT routines for marine corps boot camp?
I leave for parris island in 8 days and have been working out a lot lately. But that's mostly been my own routines. I do distance running, sprints, pullups, pushups, ab work, medicine ball throws, and kettlebell training(such as snatches and hip thrusts). with all that together, could anyone give me a very specific and complex routine that would make this last week before boot very productive? thanks and I appreciate the feedback
2 AnswersMilitary8 years agoI can't feel my back muscles when I workout?
I ONLY get this problem when I workout my back. Some exercises such as barbell rows, seated rows, and dumbell rows works fine for me but for others ESPECIALLY lat pulldowns and vbar pulldowns, I just can't feel my lats being worked out. Sometimes on those exercises I do feel it but many times I just don't. I make sure to do proper form such as sitting upright with my chest out, shoulders back, and back arched but I still don't have that mind to muscle connection when I do lat pulldowns. I know this is a great lat builder and to get bigger lats I need to feel it working. Any suggestions to help me better feel my lats working out?
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness9 years agoHow can anyone still support The War on Drugs?
it has been a failure and legalization will take a lot of power away from the black market. The War on Drugs is the government trying to curb the supply of drugs, but any economist knows that a reduce in supply leads to higher prices. That provides an incentive to the black market to profit billions. As far as curbing demand goes, that hasn't and will not work either. Isn't it time to end it?
Anyways no matter if it is a harmless drug like weed or a dangerous drug like heroin, if one wants to do drugs, THEN IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO DO SO and the government has no right to tell them how to live their lives
4 AnswersOther - Politics & Government9 years agoConservatives, Is it time to admit that trickle down economics doesn't work?
We have the most unequal distribution of wealth in the industrialized world, record corporate profits, and a bull market
with so much wealth concentrated in so few hands, isn't that wealth supposed to trickle down?
honestly what makes you think it's going to work?
prosperous economies always came from a strong and growing middle class. they buy the products that the rich make which enhances economic activity. This recovery is in a slump because of weak consumer demand, NOT that the rich don't have enough. If anything wealth trickles up

1 AnswerGovernment9 years agoWhy is it that conservatives are against legalizing drugs but support gun rights?
it makes no sense. how can you be against the right to take drugs(while hurting nobody but yourself) but support the right to bear arms(which can hurt others depending on the person). just for the record, i am liberal and i support both gun rights and legalizing all drugs. it just doesn't make sense to be against one thing but support the other

4 AnswersInvesting9 years agowhy doesn't anyone focus on our trade deficit?
all i hear is jobs this, abortions this, gay marriage this, deficit this, taxes this, debt this, and so on and so forth
but what about our growing trade deficit? we nearly have a 900 billion trade deficit and this is what really hurts our growth and jobs. Why do i rarely hear candidates, officials, commentators, etc. mention this?
this is a really important issue
5 AnswersPolitics9 years agoWhy would you be against a more cost efficient health care system like single payer?
No nation in the world(except us) spends more than 10% of their GDP on health care.
We spend 16 % of our GDP, yet we have 47 million uninsured, thousands die each year over medical bills, and thousands go bankrupt over medical bills
is quality good? well we do have the 37 ranked health care system in the world(world health organization)
compare this to france, the number one system in the world
they spend 10% of their GDP on health care and their doctors make a lot of money
every nation that is ranked above us spends much less on health care than us
why is this? because since there is no insurance companies to act as the "middle man" in these nations, billions for compensation and shareholders are not needed and instead the money could just flow from the government straight to hospitals, doctors, pharmacies, etc.
Single payer is proven to be cost efficient and higher quality so i don't want to hear fiscal cons saying "its too expensive"
the only thing i can think of is long lines but that is only for simple, non urgent procedures such as hip replacements and plastic surgey but this doesn't happen in every single payer nation
So after hearing how much more cost efficient and higher quality it is, why are you so opposed to single payer? is having an insurance company who doesn't care about you and just wants profits at the expense of your health really better than having the "mean old government" managing the finances?

6 AnswersBasketball9 years agoIs it illegal to be high?
so someone at my campus said that it is illegal to be high and if you walk around high then you can get arrested. I corrected her and said that it is only illegal to possess drugs(in this case weed). I looked at drug laws and saw that the minimum punishment( a ticket) requires the offender to actually posses weed. If you walk around with red eyes and smelling like weed then a cop cannot arrest you because it is not illegal to be high or have drugs in your system, it is only illegal to POSSESS DRUGS. i just want to make sure with many people on here
Law & Ethics9 years agoDo people become cops just because they can be aholes?
i would say the actual word but yahoo would black it out
anyways my friend in college said to me a very interesting thing. he said that most cops were most likely assholes when they were younger and they become cops just so they can continue being asses to people. at first i laughed but then i thought if it had merit. i am not trying to offend the few cops that actually do their job fairly and try to better the community through consistent dedication but many cops are a holes and i bet some current cops agree with that. how many of you agree with this statement?
9 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police9 years agoWhy do some women lie about rape/sexual assault/sexual harrassment?
im in college, hooked up with a drunk girl(i was too) and everything was consensual. we didn't even had sex because she didn't want to. the next day she accused me of violating her all because she didn't want to admit she cheated on her boyfriend and wanted to pretend she was the victim. the school conduct bought her story and put sanctions against me even though the only piece of evidence was her drunken story(that would be thrown out in court). I tried to appeal it on the basis that it was consensual and the evidence wasn't credible(would you believe anyone who recounted a story when they were drunk?) but my appeal was denied because apparently when a girl is drunk they can't give valid consent. well i was drunk too, so can't i say that she assaulted me? but of course not, since she is a girl she will always get the benefit of the doubt in these situations. since i am a guy i will always get looked at as a monster. plus if i really assaulted her then don't u think i would have gone all the way? i didnt becasue i didn't assault her
anyone who thinks this is justice does not know what justice is
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoHow is the global derivative market bigger than the world's wealth?
i believe the global derivative market is around 700 trillion and it was 695 at the heart of the crisis a few years back. i basically understand derivatives such as swaps and CDOs but i don't understand the complex nature of it. How is it that the market is much bigger than the world's wealth(74 trillion)?
1 AnswerEconomics9 years agoIf republicans are leaving obama to take all the blame for the bad economy then shouldn't he......?
get all the credit if the economy improves like it has been lately? its only fair right?
4 AnswersElections9 years agoLiberals and democrats only: What are your disappointments with Obama?
I only want to get a liberal or democrat's opinion of obama, not a right winger who is going to say the same old crap every time(if this happens i will delete your response)
I am a big liberal in my own right and i have four main disappointments:
1. the stimulus: it worked in that it prevented major job losses, a major downturn in the economy, and made smart investments in clean energy but if the funding was used more wisely the economy would be better today. i felt that too little was spent on infrastructure(60 billion) and seeing how our nation is falling apart and infrastructure has a proven history of stimulating the economy, alot more(atleast 300 billion) would have been more beneficial to the nation. If most of the package was spent on infrastructure and energy with the rest going to tax relief and state aid, unemployment would be lower today and GDP would be higher. China spends a lot on infrastructure and their economy is booming
2. Deficits- I defend obama a lot more than i should on this issue but the reality is I don't want us to eventually be like greece because it looks inevitable at this point if the government doesn't take serious action. I know we are in a recession and revenue is lower and spending needs to be higher but i feel like obama waited untill he needed to(debt ceiling crisis) to address this issue in a serious fashion. I have an interest in economics and while i realize serious deficit reduction will hurt our recovery it wouldn't hurt to think more about the future. I am a big believer in what robert rubin thinks in that government borrowing leads to less private borrowing or the crowding out effect. while obama hasn't helped the serious debt problem i do give him credit for attempting to compromise with republicans on this issue by leaving all options on the table. too bad repubs let grover norquist speak for them.
3. Wars- yes we are out of iraq but we shouldn't have waited this long. he had the power to take all the troops out faster but didn't. as far as afghanistan goes, obama's rules of engagement are destined to "improve relations with them and not hurt their feelings" but if he really wanted that then the real solution would be to TAKE ALL OF OUR TROOPS HOME AND STOP TRYING TO IMPOSE OUR WESTERN VIEWS ON THEM. if we didn't try to intervene with everything the middle east does, our national security would be a lot better. plus we would save money
4. he is a pushover. plain and simple in that he lets the right wing walk all over him and he still tries to be on their side. this has infuriated me the most. if people had no interest in helping you and who's main goal was to see you fail, would you still try to be friendly with them?
republicans are pretty much leaving obama to take the blame if the economy is bad but its only fair for him to get all the credit if the economy gets better(like it is) right?
While i am not obama's biggest fan, he still cares about us rather than himself and has done some good things such as health care reform, auto bailout, some financial reforms, and getting us on the path to clean energy. It would be nice to have someone who embraces and stands up for liberal values such as bernie sanders as president
3 AnswersOther - Politics & Government9 years agoWhen it comes to taxes, why didn't Obama do the same thing Bush did in 2003?
First let me say that i am a liberal and i am just as upset with obama as many conservatives are
Now obama wanted to let the bush tax cuts expire for those making over 250,000 a year and tried to so during a lame duck session of congress in 2010
he couldn't because of republican filibuster in the senate and the rest is history
but bush ran into a similar problem in 2003 when he tried to run his tax cuts through opposition in the senate
he got his tax cuts passed because of a loophole or "parliamentary move" which allows bills related to the budget deficit to pass through the senate on a SIMPLE MAJORITY
it was a 50-50 tie with cheney casting the deciding vote as VP
why didn't obama do this? he had the manpower in the senate to do so
6 AnswersGovernment9 years agoIs Greece Too big to fail? will its default trigger systemic risk like lehman brothers did in 08?
If greece fails then its cascading effect will deal a big blow to the eurozone and what ever happens to the eurozone is bound to spread to us
i am worried that greece's failure will be systemic and trigger another meltdown
1 AnswerInvesting9 years agoHow come politicians and others demand that welfare and unemployment recipients get drug tested but.....?
don't demand that bankers who receive bailouts get drug tested?
oil companies who receive subsidies get drug tested?
medicare and ss recipients don't get drug tested?
rich people in poor nations don't get drug tested?(that is where foreign aid goes)
I could go on with this but I find it disturbing that people demand that welfare and unemployment recipients be drug tested. It as if they are being characterized as being lazy and drug users when we all know that NOT EVERYONE who receives handouts is. Drug testing is ineffective because you are only going to catch pot users(not a big deal) because other drugs clear the system after a day.
Why wasn't anyone demanding that bankers be drug tested? TARP was no doubt a handout and billions of this tax payer money went enormous bonuses instead of what it should have been used for: liquidate balance sheets and unfreeze credit markets.
WELFARE IS WELFARE AND HANDOUTS ARE HANDOUTS NO MATTER WHO IT GOES TO(rich, poor, etc.)
