why doesn't anyone focus on our trade deficit?

Question

all i hear is jobs this, abortions this, gay marriage this, deficit this, taxes this, debt this, and so on and so forth

but what about our growing trade deficit? we nearly have a 900 billion trade deficit and this is what really hurts our growth and jobs. Why do i rarely hear candidates, officials, commentators, etc. mention this?
this is a really important issue

Probably because politicians haven't figured out effective ways to spin the trade deficit into an accusation against their opponents while hiding their own culpability for creating it.

But, you're just not going to the right sources.

The Economist, world renownd magazine, constantly talks about trade deficit.
Of all the candidates, Rick Santorum is the only one to repeat his passionate stance on the trade deficit.
CNBC (Kudlow Report, etc) constantly talks about the Trade Deficit.

And no, I'm not a Santorum supporter. Just presenting the facts.

I suggest you google to find out if our trade deficit has increased or decreased under Obama.
