As a vegan, how do you remain tolerant of those who eat meat?

The Vegan Police pretty much sums it up. We know that Matthew is a complete hypocrite just from one post. Diet is a pretty stupid thing to start huge arguements on. Neither eating meat nor veggies is immoral. So let's keep it that way. And as for religion, going door to door asking for you to join isnt forcing you to do anything. Anything more than that is where it might be okay to draw the line.

Simple. If you want others to respect your dietary choices and not judge you, then extend the same respectful courtesies back to them. If someone asks you questions about your diet and lifestyle, answer them in a mature and educated way without looking down upon the asker. It is not the avoidance of animal foods and products that non-vegans find offensive, but rather the attitude that some vegans have that those of us who do consume animal products are evil or less human. Now I am aware that not all vegans are like that. Those who are give the rest of you a bad name.

Because everyone has the choice to eat what they want regarding meat. They are doing no harm to you personally, if it really bothers you then just try to have friends who are solely vegan. People will always eat meat and you can't avoid it so you'll just have to learn to live with it.

    According to Matthew:

    1) Vegetarians are simply better people than meat-eaters:

"Everybody knows that it is more compassionate to be a vegetarian than to eat meet"

    2) Meat-eaters can successfully be compared to cannibals:

"That really is just as bad as pointing out that cannibalism has happened in the past, so cannibalism must be OK."

    3) Meat-eaters are mindless sheeple whereas vegetarians are good critical thinkers

"But, there is not much to say to anyone who decides that they don't want to take any moral stances that are not currently taken by the majority of the population"

    4) Meat-eaters cannot debate:

"Other people will quote lines from the Bible that says that it is OK. If you then come back with lines from the bible that condone slavery, they will just revert to the omnivore argument."

    5) Vegetarians are champions of morality

"But, still, you can point out to people that they don't have very good arguments all you want, but too many people just don't see any reason why they should have to try to be more moral and compassionate than the rest of the primarily meat-eating world, and it's like beating ones head against a wall."

    6) Vegetarians are humble

"Plus, I do have to admit to not being perfect, unfortunately."

    7) Vegetarians actually have influence

"I do know that some people over the years have decided to become vegetarian after asking me to explain my opinions, so it's not as if I have had no impact whatsoever."

Hey, to be honest I don't even think of it as being tolerant. I just think it is nothing to do with me!

I don't notice what others eat, let alone think it is any of my business. Whether someone is vegetarian, vegan or eats meat, it is only a matter for them.

I don't care so don't feel there is anything to tolerate.

Most vegans weren't born vegans. You probably ate meat at some point in your life, before you realized that veganism is a more sustainable and ethical choice. And when you went vegan, you probably had to learn a lot, and slowly replace the foods you eat. So if you don't understand a meat eater's point of view, remember that you were once like them. Going vegan is a big change, i wouldn't expect anyone to do it instantly.

What other people eat really doesn't bother me, except worrying about friends and family who don't eat healthy. I don't have to "remain tolerant" I just am tolerant.

No man has a right in America to treat any other man tolerantly, for tolerance is the assumption of superiority. ~Wendell Willkie

Honestly, everyone I know has been super duper supportive of me being vegan. I don't judge others, and they don't judge me.

Same reasons that one remains tolerant of people of different cultures, lifestyles, religious backgrounds, etc. It's called not feeling superior and respecting others. If one is not tolerant of others simply because of what they eat, then they are a bigot themselves and there is no justification for that kind of immoral behaviour. Personal ethics and morals regarding what one eats or doesn't eat would be canceled out because they are in turn, a horrible human being.

In real life or the fantasy world that is the internet?

In real life, it doesn't bother me. I do things for myself. People around me do not have the power of influence.

On the internet? Who cares. People I will never meet.
