Is there much difference between name brand and generic medications?

i have a prescription for hydrocodone and the name brand ( Lortab ) is almost 80 dollars while the generic is about 30 dollars. i dont understand why, if they are pretty much the same, the Lortab would be so much higher. it would seem to me that they would want to be a little more competitive.

theres generic equivalents of a huge percentage of drugs and they are exactly the same, all u are paying more for with the branded ones is the packaging and brand and alot of doctors get commission payments and kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies so they are encouraged to prescribe the branded drugs.

If u have the option for a generic replacement for ur prescription, go for it, u arent losing any quality.
