I have to do a project on famous women in American history... help?
So far, I have narrowed my choices down to:
Carrie Nation
Emma Goldman
Mary Surratt
Lizzie Borden
Typhoid Mary
Sarah Wakeman
Elizabeth Cady Staton
Who should I pick? I won't do anybody who contributed to "pop" or athletic history. I find those people to have rather uninteresting lives. Also, I didn't want to do somebody that everybody knows about, like Rosa Parks, Marie Curie, and Hellen Keller. I think it's important to have other famous women shine as well.
Please only choose from this list D:
I asked this before and got no usable answer....
Help?
Thanks for the answers everybody. I haven't decided which to vote best answer yet. That's really funny that Nellie Bly ( Elizabeth Cochran ) was mentioned, I did her for a project a few years ago xD

Mary Surratt might be an interesting choice. She was the first woman hung by the United States Government for complicity in the assassination of President Lincoln. It is debatable how much she knew and how complacent she actually was. Her son John Surratt was a conspirator and eluded justice for two years

I'd suggest Carrie Nation (that way you get to look at the role of women in Prohibition and the reasons Prohibition was so important to many women) or Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Choose positive role models, not people who became famous because they committed a crime or managed to kill people because they were typhoid carriers and wouldn't stay out of the kitchen...

Of those I think you should do Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
I'd like to suggest another famous American woman that is little-known today, Nellie Bly. Among other things, she was a pioneer for woman investigative journalism.

Betsy Johnson, quirky style clothier (think of Madonna interior the 80s, Desperately searching for Susan)
