My 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix will start without the keys in the ignition?

The car evidently thinks that the keys are always in the ignition. When I open the door and no keys are in it, it still beeps like the keys are in the ignition. It will go into gear, unlock the steering position and everything. I can also remove the keys while the car is running or remove them while the car is off but still in gear.

What's wrong? How do I fix it? And how much will it cost?

You will need to replace the Key Cylinder. Most auto parts store carry them. The only problem is that you will have a set of keys for the new ignition and a set of keys for the doors, trunk and glove box.

My brother had a 2000 Grand Prix and it did the same thing. I have no idea why it does that, but I would go and have a mechanic look at it. He may suggest to change the ignition switch, or there may be something wrong with the wiring.
