Math Word Problem - need help?
In 2011, the price of a math book when up to $150. This is 8% more than the 2010 price. What was the old selling price. Round to the nearest cent.
Please show work because I need to see how you came up with the answer. My answer is very close but off by a couple of digits so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

The price went up by 8%, so the 2011 price is 108% of the 2010 price.
Divide 150 by 108, then multiply by 100
150/108 * 100 = $138.89
Did you work out 8% of 150 and subtract it, and get $138? That's a common error with this type of problem.

Lets see..
If it was 108$ in 2011 because it went up 8%, then the 2010 price was 100$.
The answer is just about 138.9
To show your work.. I just did like: 135 + 8%= 145.8.
I just kept going up until I got the closest or 150.
Hope it helps?

2010 price = x
$150 = 108%
$x = 100%
150 / 108 = 1%
150 / 108 x 100 = $138.89
x = $138.89
