Is there a place you can go to live in a different time period?

I know that sounds a bit odd, but to further explain:

I'm a huge fan of the show, Downton Abbey. I absolutely love the period that it's set in. The clothing, decor, and architecture. And also the sophisticated nature of the people.

After watching the show for a while, I wondered if there was a way to live that life without appearing completely mental to society. For instance, I couldn't wear a dress and hat like the women of that period out in public because everyone would think I'm insane. I also like the idea of communicating via letters but it would be difficult to cut myself off from technology completely.

So anyway, my question is- is there such a thing as a community (for lack of a better word) where everyone walks and talks a certain way, wears the clothes you would see in a period-drama like Downton Abbey, and so on...?

There is no actual place where you can go to live in a different

time period, but there are places where you can take part in

    period history weekends.

My late wife and I used to attend 'murder' mystery weekends

before we both retired from full working life,

many of which are set in country manor house hotels, and

    some also have period dress.

So you can dress the part, late Victorian, Edwardian, etc.,

similar to Downton. Basically, you dress up in your finery and

go swanning around the Manor and or estate, and solve a murder

mystery. No real murder, just a lot of fun, some people put on the

airs and graces of their characters and spend the weekend in this way,

returning to business suits and reality on Monday.

It might not be quite what you are looking for, but gives you the escapism

and chance to dress up. You can take your own period clothing or hire it

    at the venue.

Time travel methods still have not been developed, though I wish there was a way. I'd go back 5 years and stand up to my old boss and get that promotion I wanted, would have stayed at my desired weight instead of packing on pounds, saved money and not dated some of my exes. Life made me smarter I guess. But if I could pick an era to go back to, I guess it would be the fifties for the fashion and the eighties for the music :-)

An Amish community or a retirement home are you best bets
