Has anyone tried truvia? Can you tell me what its like?
I have polycistic ovarian syndrome and so am highly susceptable to diabetes. I have seen the truvia advert, but I can't say my experiences of sugar substitutes has been highly succesfull. Is truvia like other sweeteners? Or does it really taste like sugar?
And what about the price? I know other sweeteners can be expensive when sold in small pots?

Fyi, though Truvia is marketed as stevia, it is actually 99.1% erythritol, a sugar alcohol Cargill, the manufacturers of Truvia, derive from corn that is 30% GMOs. It only contains about 9/10 of 1% chemically derived stevia extract and masking agent.
I've never tasted Truvia myself, I use SweetLeaf stevia, but eythritol may taste similar to sugar from I understand (although I'm not sure) and that really is pretty much what Truvia is.

Yes. It's from the Stevia LEAF (not root) and I grow it in my garden.
It is naturally occurring, so it is not like other synthetic sweetners. It is not, however, sugar, so I would not go into this expecting it to taste identical to table sugar. It's probably the best sugar alternative out there, but it's still not the same.
It's not all that cheap, either.

Truvia is a brand-name version of the natural sweetener made from stevia root. It does add a slight taste if you use too much, but not if you use just a bit. It is many times sweeter than sugar and all natural. Should be fine to use!

I have and it seems to me to be alright as a sweetner. It costs a lot more because it's more natural. That's the main reason I don't buy it. I like the aspartame, the blue packet sugar, equal. It's good sprinkled on my plain breakfast ceareal and blah tasting fruit in the winter. I'm also a diabetic type 1.

It is sweet and has almost no calories, but I think it adds a taste to coffee that I don't like. I don't notice as much when added to tea, however.
