R&P...Is illegal downloading the only way to save the music industry?
In the light of the recent deaths of Whitney Houston & Amy Winehouse do you agree that the only way to save these people from the excesses in their lives is by the consumer to download tracks for free. This way the musicians will make less money (something like a normal salary from their promoters) which in turn would mean they were less likely to be able to afford to do copious amounts of drugs and drink. I believe this is a real solution to a real problem, what are your views?

you are just looking for excuses, so you won't feel as guilty, for STEALING copyright music.
there are lot of people, that paid only from the sale of the music.
the writers
producer,
directer,
engineers,
All the people involved with recording the music,
They don't paid tour money.
They only get paid, when the music sell.
And why should a band be forced to tour?
just be able to pay their bills.
there just a few rich celebrity bands.
most bands struggle to make money, to pay for everything,
just like you and me.

I'll buy that for a dollar!
You do see bands touring more and finding forms of income. This in turn is a positive activity. However, the environment is thrown in there face routinely.
I like to buy at the events. Otherwise: I grab a listen for free where it is free. After all: free is free!

Artists will find a way to get their kicks no matter what they make.
I buy ALL my music. I don't know what % the artists I buy from gets but it's better than nothing.
If you love a groups music then support them!

I disagree completely. Illegal downloading is STEALING. Piracy is stealing money from an artist - in some cases, money that could be used for charitable donations, if you will. You earn money? You should get to keep it.
Funny you should mention this, I"m actually working on an article about illegal downloads right now.
