Why do some people think that Obama is a socialist?

I think Socialist, Kenyan, Affirmative Actions, food stamps etc are just code words so a lot of "whites" will not support or vote for President Obama. The GOP is very good at using fear to get people to vote for them. It is not as if Barack Obama CREATED this economic collapse! It was caused by LACK of regulation under Republican control of both houses of Congress and the White House for six years. Obama INHERITED this mess, rather than creating it! Why is it these discontented “folks” did not rise up in anger and frustration over the wild spending on two wars and a “socialist” Medicare Part D prescription plan during the Bush Administration? Why is it that doubling of the national debt under George W. Bush did not cause outrage among these people? Why is it that all of a sudden when an African American President, with the backing of almost 54 percent of the American people, the biggest margin since 1988, takes the oath, all of a sudden, there is awareness of how terrible things are, and they are totally the fault of someone who was not in power and did not have authority to do anything to prevent it?

It is quite clear and obvious that all of the attacks on Obama as a “socialist”, an “illegal immigrant from Kenya”, as a “racist” and a “Hitler” is motivated by anger that we finally have someone in the White House who is there for ALL of the people, not just the privileged upper class and the corporate classes! And again he is African American! What a horrible tragedy, isn’t it, in the mind of these bigots! The Republican party and conservative ideology are the cause of this collapse of the American economy and society, just as it was in the 1920s, and again, we have to look to the Democrats and progressive values to restore America to a condition of promoting equality of opportunity and hope in the future. ❣

2000 Conservative radio stations across the land ALL spewing mis information, compared to 60 progressive talk radio that show other views and NOT allowed in those states

Most media does little to promote truths...see it is not good for ratings

It is people who follow and do not use own brain nor computer to look out at the World and see for self

Upbringing, hate and some say it...truly believing it bothers the Democrats/progressives/libs and common sense people...but it makes them laugh at the negative ones

They would wish to have single payer/get rid of employer based insurance..they have little program in Canada...most live few miles fro border..yet they know NOTHING and do not care or want to learn about what works in social like society

Socials OWN all property...no one can own private property..all is shared

NOW ask you...WHAT country is in fact socialist...NONE

Canada was number one during crisis across the world..no one looks to see why

Never in history has ANYONE gone bankrupt over getting ill in Canada

NOT ONE foreclosure has occurred...NOW why is that?

Regulations....banks here..investors over there

Let me add one more thing: You are a prime example of why we have a MINIMUM VOTING AGE...so that people such as Barack Hussein Obama won't come along and prey on your vulnerable minds and get you caught up with pictures such as his Joe Camel poster. The voting age actually needs to be raised substantially, in my opinion.

It is been said that if you're young and not a liberal, you might not have a heart; but if you're over 30 and still a liberal, then for certain you don't have a brain.

GREAT - THEN WE REALLY ARE APPARENTLY FRIEND'S AFTER ALL, as anyone who dislikes Obama is a friend of mine!

Most of the "socialist" traits attributed to Obama have been part of America's political/economic system for the last several decades, under Republican and Democratic presidents.

A few points to discuss in answering that,

1) The dictionary definition of socialism seems to fit his agenda. "Social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole."

This is manifest in such things as usurping power by appointing czars, bailing out car companies and forcing a failed medical plan on those who don't want inferior coverage at high cost.

2) I would point out that although a beautiful country with many nice people, Ireland is in worse economic shape than the USA. We need to avoid Obama's spending practices to prevent further decay of our economy.

3) As you reference health care in your question, you should note that there is a never ending supply of NHS news stories about people being left on trolleys in halls and months of waiting for treatment that would take just days here. No thanks to a system like that.

Because some people are so stupid that they'll believe whatever Fox Snooze tells them. In truth, they don't even know what 'socialist' means, only that it's bad (because Fox Snooze told them).

And it's really laughable because Obama is barely a liberal.

Its every Americans right to have an opinion, however facts are stubborn. the fact show that Obama is the the furthest to the right than any Democratic President in our nations history.

I believe there is a large grey area between capitalism and socialism. Obama, in my opinion is much closer to the socialist end of the spectrum.

They like to place blame.
