Would it be possible for the Republican delegates to nominate Chris Christie at the Convention?

Is it possible and is there a chance of it happening? I keep hearing people talking about Chris Christie, Jeb Bush and even Sarah Palin being nominated at the convention even if Mitt Romney or Santorum or Gingrich wins the most states.

Do you think it would be a good idea?

Only if it is a brokered convention.

If no candidate has the required number of delegates to get the nomination on the first ballot anything could happen after that. After that first ballot with no one getting the required number of votes, all the delegates are free to vote for whoever they want to. The delegates that voted for the bottom 1 or 2 candidates will start looking for someon else

yes, but that doesn't mean that Christie would have to accept it

Presidents used to be chosen that way, before primaries and caucuses were invented, Abraham Lincoln is one example

You are listening to the wrong people. It can not happen.
