i'm slowly losing memory on my laptop hard drive. about .2GB every few minutes. help?
So recently i have been doing a tidy up of my laptops hard drive, inspired by me recently installing system mechanic. i was deleting some old games i had installed and as i was doing it i would check my computer page to see how much space i was gaining. the free space was going up and everything was normal. but when i tried to uninstall medal of honour: Allied assault from my computer it went thought the uninstallation process but then didn't dissappear from my add/remove programs list, so i did it again once or twice i think. after that i noticed that every couple minutes when i would refresh the computer page i would be losing on average .2 of a GB every time. it keeps going down and it seems in the last 45 mins i have lost 7 GB of memory and its still going down. anyone have a similar problem / know how to fix it?
you say its unrelated but i have been watching my HD space very closely over the past few days and this only happened immediatly after i messed about with that game
restarting my computer will reset the memory to what it should be. but it starts going down again.
i have run scans on my computer and came up with nothing

There may be lots of causes.
- it could be a virus
- it could be the swapfile expanding
- it could be a corrupt windows or windows explorer
- it could be some automated file-activity you are not aware of like an auto-update.
- it could be a corrupt filesystem (i'm not sure though if this effect might occur in this case)
- it could be driver related
The causes might be divided in 3 main possibilities:
1: there realy is going on something with files (used space) in the partition.
2: explorer is for some reason giving incorrect info because of software related problems.
3: there might be some hardware problem (can't think of what though)
If you are interested in determining what is going on file-wise you might use some utility that can make system-snapshots to see what is happening. For instance ashampoo uninstaller can make system snapshots and tell you what files have been changed or added in a certain period.
Maybe try to use the computer without internet-connection to make sure no file is being downloaded.
If you just want to solve the problem:
- restore the pc to factory settings (of course first backup userdata)
- give the swapfile a fixed size and put it in a different partition with a fixed drive-letter.
- try to deactivate unneeded automatic services, like the recycle bin and automatic updates (best do those updates manually, not only windows has automatic updates, other apps can have those also, the less automatic background activity the less surprises)
- install all windows updates
- install the latest support-software, mainly being directx.
- reinstall your apps and games

it sounds unrelated.
if you have MALWARE do this
download MALWAREBYTES you may need it badly
download RKILL ( a very useful utility see bleepingcomputer)
start the pc in safe maode
run rkill...it just terminates processes, for this system start
run Malwarebytes and clean the pc.
===========================
perhaps it wasnt a fair statement, Allied Assault has been MALWARE'd
in other words there is malware that calls itself AlliedAssultUninstall.exe
search the inet for(but DO NOT ACCESS or OPEN links) "allied assault malware"
ok so i made a misleading statement.
the fact is you probably have malware that named itself by the same name as your game
so you need to clean the pc.
use the method above , and make sure you run an AV too

I would say to go with at least 3 GB memory. 120 GB hard drive should be good. The hard drive is where you store your files, like your photos, music files, etc. So if you have a lot of music files, back them up on CD so you don't use up that 120 GB. Good Luck! :)

your pc is infected with virus that is continously duplicating files . if you have antivirus then scan your pc else get an it from internet or somewhere else.
If it doesn't work then try running pc in safe mode and uninstall game or scan.
