In general, the harm to a credit score from closing a credit card is when you close a card with which you have a long history, as the length of positive credit history counts for about 15% of your score. The longer you maintain accounts in good standing, the better your score will be.

Closing your recently opened account should not affect your score. There will be no blemish on your credit history. The effect on your score of the inquiry that was linked to your report when you applied for the card has already taken place, and it likely had a very small effect.

An alternative to closing the account is to keep it open and use it once every few months and pay your balance in full. If there is no annual fee, this will help your credit score at no additional cost.
