I have just uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2011 as it continually gives me problems?

as well as gobbling up 80.4MB I can ill afford to lose on my little laptop. Can anyone suggest an alternative,I am the only one using my computer, and not a lot of memory left & wonder if it is safe enough just to rely on Windows Defender which is already built in.My system is Vista Basic & I don't want to upgrade to anything else, pensioner & can't afford it for one thing. Thanks

Use the free Microsoft Security Essentials.

Make sure you use the Norton Removal tool to clear all traces of it before installing MSE.

i also have vista and norton and mcfee is known to eat up space and not always work when they should i have avast for mine and i have had avast on my pc for over 4 years and still no problems its also free you can buy an upgraded version on avast but i have always had the free one and not had a single problem avast usually runs up to 64mb which is not even close to a GB but make sure you delete norton because bith virus protectors will cancel each other out and dont always just rely on windows defender i would give you a link to download it but the last time i did that i got introuble with yahoo and then they deleted my comment and link hope this helps

I have had good experience with Norton for about 20 years. However it can be difficult to remove.

    The removal tool is at

I stopped using all norton programs about 20 years ago because it was getting way too fat and was causing problems, same with mcafee. I only use nod32 from eset.com.
