Computer Science Major + Tongue piercing?

I'm a computer science and engineering major && I'm thinking about getting a tongue piercing.. My only concern is that I'm trying to get a summer internship this year and I was wondering if this would really hinder my chances at getting the internship. Ideally I would hope that as long as I have the skills and can do what they want me to do, I should get the internship. But society's standards make me think otherwise. Which is it?

I do developer interviews all the time - would it bother me? Nope, not at all. Would it bother some? Yes, it would bother some people - the problem is you don't know who it would bother, and you don't know how many it would bother.

Today's job market (even for interns) is very, very competitive, and I say why do anything that could hurt your chance of getting a job? The last jr developer posting I did - I received 75 applications, so you can see what you're up against.

Personally, I have nothing against it - but I know some people will have a problem with it.

A lot of people still relate body piercings and tattoos as symbols of rebellion, and since you don't know who is or are going to interview you, you should avoid showing your tongue piercing or remove it for the interview

Keep in mind that companies usually interview dozens of people so anything that bothers them would be enough to dismiss you and look at the next candidates. As I said, you don't know who is going to interview you.

The beauty of Computer Science is that, no one cares what comes out of your mouth. It's what comes out of your hands that's more important. If worse comes to worse and you really just want to impress them as best you can, I'm sure you can remove it during the interview. After the interview, it doesn't matter what you put in your body... Granted it's not something offensive.
