Long Hair cat has something sticky/oily(?) on his tail?

My kitten is about 8 to 9 months old and I've noticed on his tail by the base its a little sticky or oily, something! He's long haired and I've washed his tail TWICE and it's still there! Anyone know why its happening or what it could be? He will be going to the vet in a week or so but I just wanted to know if anyone could help me before that.

Update:

Yes I forgot to mention he is neutered. I'll try the dawn soap. Thanks!

Is this kitten neutered yet? If not, get him done quickly. Is it kinda greasy feeling? Most likely its what is called "stud tail" - neutered and non-neutered cats can get this. Its excess oils being produced. If its nothing more then this, then you will need to wash the tail in Goop to get out the oils (or Dawn dish soap to cut the oils). Then dry completely and sprinkle cornstarch baby powder (NOT talc) on the tail and rub it in. You do not want to put powder on the spot till its totally dry.

You may need to check weekly and rewash as needed. Neutered males have get this once in a while; entire males can have the problem a lot.

My mother has a 14 year old female cat with this issue - vet said it might be mites. A few weekly tail washings of Dawn soap cleared it up.

If it's sticky try peanut butter it takes gum out of human hair why couldn't it take random sticky out of cat hair. Good luck worse case scenario you might have to cut it out and shave it.

properly, fur continues to be hair, we only confer with animal hair as "fur" and human hair as, properly "hair", i think of the only distinction between hair and fur is that fur is everywhere in the physique (like an animal's physique) and hair is on the top (like on a human's), yet fur and hair on my own is the comparable element. i'm hoping this answer helped, ?gabydt8?
