Can your dog tell if you are about to have a migraine?
I've heard that some dogs can alert their owners to an impending migraine attack. Can your pet do this? What breed is it?

I know there are dogs that can sense different things happening/about to happen with humans, but I think this is not the norm for the every day pet.
Some dogs are genetically born with heightened senses. These are the dogs which are used in training for many different tasks.
The only thing my dogs recognize is when I am stressed. THAT is simply because the tone of my voice changes not because they *feel* it.

It doesn't need to be any specific breed, not sure about migraine, but some dogs can tell when a diabetic is about to have a "hypo", they can tell when the owner is going to have a seizure, even sniff out some forms of cancer, "man's best friend" is truly amazing, unyet the way some of them are treated it really makes you wonder.

My dog knows if I'm upset but not if I'm about to get a migraine, but it doesn't surprise me that some dogs can do this. Dogs have a highened sense of awareness and if they can tell if someone is about to have an epileptic seizure or is near death, then I'm sure they can know if someone is going to have a migraine. However, for a dog to *reliably* detect when someone is going to have a seizure for example (e.g. service dogs), they must be trained to do so.

Dogs are very intelligent and if they have a good relationship with their owner will often respond to things we don't know. My 2 dogs, which are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a habit of barking and sitting on the sofa looking out the window 5 minutes before I come in from work like they know I'm nearby. When I have stomach cramps the lighter one lies on my stomach and the other on my lap like they know it helps keeping it warm. They sense my little niece's fear of dogs so don't jump up at her like they do with everyone else, they just sit or lie down as good as gold.
I guess it relates back to back when dogs were wild and roaming, we are part of their 'pack' and we are the alpha dogs so they will follow us and look after us in whatever way they can. As for the migraine part, most likely they will know, guess you just have to look out for the signs if they do :)

Not troubled by migraines, but my Border Collie knew when I was
unwell or troubled.
They can tell a lot about your body chemistry by your scent and might well
be able to predict your migraine if there's a chemical imbalance involved.

Animals are very perceptive and I do not doubt that our pets can experience alterations. I've regarded the hormone phases proposal that you simply endorse...as that definitely might be whatever a puppy might notice. My boys each began performing in a different way whilst I acquired pregnant. Interesting how men and women which can be truthfully in song to their puppy and "pay attention" to what the puppy is speaking can observe alterations like this. Congrats incidentally!
