5 year old grinding his teeth?

My 5 year old son has recently started grinding his teeth. Its a horrible sound and is surely bad for his teeth! Does anybody have any advice on how to get him to stop it, other than having to go to the dentist about it?

Update:

Well, yeah, telling him to stop is a given... That was...helpful.

If you take him to the dentist they can give him a plastic retainer that will stop any damage to his teeth whilst he grows out of the habit.

Also you could try keeping his mouth busy- singing etc, or giving him boiled (sugar free!) sweets to suck to make sure he isn't grinding them.
